We had an amazing incursion last term called Mad About Science. This term the focus will be on exploring materials and their properties. This will help us choose the best materials for making puppets for our Inquiry Unit of Work

Inquiry

In Term Four the Year 1 and 2 children will be exploring the characteristics and properties of materials and components that are used to produce designed solutions, and will design and make a puppet made from the trash they bring from home. The children will partake in a wonderful incursion exploring the power of sustainability and creativity by creating puppets made out of trash.

Wellbeing

This term, we will be exploring 'Gender Identity' and 'Positive Gender Relations' as part of our Respectful Relationships program. The children will be reflecting on their identity - their likes, dislikes and interests, and celebrating diversity in the classroom. We will also be exploring positive gender norms, challenging negative gender norms, and developing an appreciation of differences.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

We are continuing to practise our SWPBS values of being respectful, safe and responsible learners. We have been working hard to receive values tokens in the classroom and playground.

Language around Friendships - Becoming a friendship Ninja!

4 Friendship Facts - A set of 4 facts that help us have realistic expectations in our friendships so we understand what is normal.

1. No friendship (relationship) is perfect
2. friendships are different
3. Trust and respect are the most important qualities of a friendship
4. Friendships change, and that's ok!

Friendship Fire - any situation between you and a friend that results in negative feelings

Friend O Cycle - The normal cycle in a friendship that brings the friendship back to the healthy zone after experiencing a friendship fire.

Friend O Meter - a scale to identify healthy and unhealthy friendships

Friendship Ninja - A friendship Ninja is someone who:

surrounds themselves with friends in the healthy zone of the Friend-o-Meter

is kind and friendly to everyone

understands the 4 friendship facts

puts out friendship fires when they ignite

names behaviour

makes new friends and understands that friendships change

is someone you want to be friends with because they're true to who they are

Mean on Purpose: When someone is intentionally unkind to someone else.
