Dear Parents and Carers
It has been a far more settled week than last week.
As we know, last week we featured in the media regarding new ways of learning and teaching for 2024. Misinformation and sensational headlines led to a whirlwind of TV, radio and social media comment. Gladly, the media moves on very quickly.
When people took time to learn what was behind and beyond the sensational headline, they learnt that whilst we are redesigning learning at Chevalier, we will maintain mandatory curriculum requirements, uphold indicative hours and, most importantly, maintain a five-day week at Chevalier in 2024.
On another note, there has been much correspondence to parents and stakeholder groups throughout the week. I am conscious that a number of communications have been sent to parents and carers. As such, I provide links relevant to those communications.

Community Support - Community Christmas Dinner
Each Christmas, Chev supports the Community Christmas Dinner held at the Southern Highlands Christian School.
This year we have been asked to contribute Christmas trees and decorations for the venue. These are used to decorate the hall, and families can then take the trees and decorations home.
If you have any artificial Christmas trees and / or decorations which you could contribute to this worthwhile cause, please drop them off at Student Services.

Sun Safety
This term our student leaders launched a sun safety campaign and have been promoting wearing a broad brim hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with more than 18,000 Australians diagnosed with melanoma this year alone. Please see the Chev Shop website for further information on how to purchase the Chev broad brim hats.
ISA Sport
ISA Round 6 is on this Saturday. Team fixtures and bus information can be found here. All buses will be leaving from the bus zone on Charlotte Street. All students should be dropped off in the JFC car park.
Summer sports update
Saturday 25 November is the final ISA round for 2023. Team training concluded yesterday and will resume on Thursday 1 February 2024 for all teams.
Students interested in continuing training are welcome to take part in general sport and fitness conditioning sessions with Coach Phillips in Weeks 8 and 9. Sessions will be limited to a maximum of 30 students.
What: General sports fitness and conditioning training
When: Tuesday and Thursday 3:45pm – 5:00pm Week 8 & 9
Where: Meet at the Chev Gym
Participants need to:
- Return a completed Chev Gym permission note available from student services.
- Register participation with Coach Phillips by email phillipsc2@chevalier.nsw.edu.au
Students can also access school holiday training programs via Student Central/Extra Curricular/Sport & ISA.
Representative ISA/CIS Sports Opportunities
EOI for 2024 Term 1 Open Now
The Independent Sporting Association offers Chevalier students representative sporting pathways and the chance to compete against major school associations in NSW. From these associations, students are selected for the New South Wales Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS) representative teams to compete against Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) and Combined High Schools (CHS).
Via these pathways, students may have the opportunity to represent New South Wales and Australia.
Only those students playing in the ISA Saturday competition are eligible to trial for ISA representative teams in that sport. To trial for sports which are Saturday sports, students must be playing in the 1st’s, Inter A or Junior A team in their relevant sport.
School carnivals will be used for students wishing to gain selection ISA Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country
Students are also eligible for ISA selection for pathways sports. Pathway sports are those that the ISA does not provide inter-school Saturday competitions. These include AFL, Baseball, Diving, Girls Rugby 7’s, Golf, Boys Hockey, Rugby League, Sailing, Softball, Triathlon, Volleyball and Water Polo.
Students wishing to trial for the below ISA/CIS representative sports teams in Term 1 2024 must complete an expression of interest by 5pm Friday 1 December. No late expressions of interest can be accepted.

- Boys and Girls Basketball
- Baseball
- Boys and Girls Softball
- Triathlon
- Boys and Girls Water Polo
- Golf
- Girls Rugby 7’s

Opportunities to trial for sports not listed above will be provided throughout the year.

Duke of Edinburgh - Information session for parents
YouthAdvance is a Duke of Ed Open Award Centre, and have partnered with Chevalier to help deliver the Award to students in Years 9-12. YouthAdvance recently held a student information session at the College, and will soon be holding two Online Award Information Sessions, which are more aimed more at Parents. During the sessions they will provide details about the Award, what’s involved, costs and how to register, so students and parents have a full understanding of this fabulous program before signing up.

If you have a child in Year 7 – 11 who will be leaving the College at the end of this academic year, please send a notification email to enrolments@chevalier.nsw.edu.au.
Bike Racks
Now that the weather is a little warmer, a reminder that bike racks are available for students to secure their bikes if they wish to ride to school. The racks are located in the centre of the College in the walkway between the library and the Main Office building.
