Principal Team Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week, our School Captains and Vice School Captains attended School Council to present on behalf of the student body. This marked the second meeting in which our student leaders have shared their insights, ideas and priorities directly with Council, representing our school with confidence, maturity and genuine passion. Providing authentic opportunities for student voice is a cornerstone of our school culture, and it is inspiring to see our student leaders actively shaping the future of Beaumaris Primary School while ensuring the perspectives of their peers are heard, valued and acted upon.
One of the highlights of this term has been the release of our NAPLAN results. We are exceptionally proud of the outstanding achievements of both our students and staff. Our Year 3 students performed well above both Similar and Network Schools across every assessment domain, with results in several areas exceeding the Network by more than 10%. Equally pleasing was the performance of our Year 5 students, particularly the exceptional growth demonstrated from Year 3 to Year 5 in Spelling, where Beaumaris Primary School outperformed both Similar and Network Schools by more than 10%. These results are a powerful affirmation of the consistent, research-informed and evidence-based teaching practices embedded through our Beaumaris Instructional Sequence. More importantly, they reflect a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement and the unwavering commitment of our staff and students to achieving excellence in learning.
On Monday, we formally sent our 2027 Prep enrolment offers to families. Welcoming new students and their families into our community is always an exciting milestone, particularly as many are siblings of current students or families already connected to our school. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on what makes Beaumaris Primary School such a special place. Our school sits at the heart of the Beaumaris community; a place where lifelong friendships are formed, cherished memories are created and a genuine sense of belonging flourishes. Those connections extend well beyond the school gates, whether catching up with friends at the Concourse, meeting at the beach, walking the dogs on the weekend or cheering together from the sidelines of one of the many Sharks sporting teams. It is these enduring relationships, built through shared experiences and community spirit, that make Beaumaris such a unique and welcoming place to learn and grow.
Yesterday, our Year 4–6 students enjoyed a fantastic House Athletics Day. Throughout the day, students truly embodied our school motto, Play the Game, demonstrating resilience, determination, encouragement and exemplary sportsmanship. It was wonderful to witness students celebrating one another's achievements, supporting their teammates and striving to do their very best in every event. Congratulations to all students for the enthusiasm and school spirit they brought to the day, and on Friday this years House Athletics Champions will be shared at assembly. We also congratulate our Prep students, who recently celebrated their 100 Days of School a significant milestone recognising just how much they have grown, learned and achieved in such a short period of time.
There is certainly much to look forward to over the coming weeks. Our Year 6 students are working incredibly hard as they prepare for their production of Shrek the Musical, while excitement is building for our annual Book Week Parade, a much-loved highlight of the school calendar. Preparations for Father's Day are also well underway, and we look forward to welcoming fathers, grandfathers and special friends to our Open Afternoon on Friday 4 September. These events provide wonderful opportunities to celebrate learning, creativity and the strong partnerships that exist between our school and families, and we look forward to sharing these special occasions with our community.
It was also wonderful to welcome so many family members to our Open Afternoon on Friday. With the sun shining, students were proud to showcase their learning and celebrate their achievements with those closest to them. A particular highlight was seeing our Year 2 students working alongside their families to continue planting our developing orchard. This project has quickly become a symbol of growth, sustainability and community, and we look forward to its completion by October. We know it will provide a lasting legacy for future generations of Beaumaris students to enjoy.
Finally, last week Grace and I had the privilege of representing Beaumaris Primary School at Parliament House as the Premier of Victoria delivered a formal apology to victim survivors of historic sexual abuse at Beaumaris and other Victorian primary schools. It was a deeply significant and moving occasion.
The apology acknowledges the profound wrongs of the past, but it also reinforces our shared responsibility for the future. As the current custodians of Beaumaris Primary School, we remain unwavering in our commitment to ensuring that every child is safe, respected, listened to and able to thrive. Child safety is not simply a legislative obligation, it is a moral responsibility that underpins every decision we make and every action we take.
Grace and I sincerely appreciate the many members of our community who have taken the time to speak with us about the significance of this occasion. Your support, compassion and commitment to ensuring that history is never repeated continue to strengthen our resolve to build a school community where every child feels safe, valued and empowered to flourish.
