        Lesson Plan: Playing Downball Respectfully in the Yard

Step 1: List Learning Intentions and Success Criteria

We are learning to : play downball by the school rules

It will look like;

-Explaining the downball rules

-Playing downball by the rules

-Resolving conflict with dignity and care

-Winning with humility 

-Showing resilience when my game doesn’t go to plan

Step 2:  List a rationale for teaching the behaviour 

Why is it important?

Holy Rosary School Expectations: Safety is our right. Learning is our responsibility. Respect is our way. 

Step 3:  Identify examples and non-examples of the desired behaviour 

What would the behaviour look/sound like?                      

Examples

Following the school rules for downball

Complimenting other players for their ability or sportsmanship

Allowing others to join the line to play

Waiting patiently in the line to play

Solving issues assertively and respectfully

Showing resilience when the game doesn’t go the way you thought it would

Actively listening and responding assertively, but not aggressively when there are issues in the game

Showing humility when I win 

What would the behaviour not look/sound like?

Non-examples

Changing the rules

Being angry when the rules don’t suit you

Belittling, insulting  or putting someone down for the way they play

Unfairly excluding  other students from the game

Pushing in or being impatient in the line

Swearing and interrupting when issues are being resolved

Losing your temper, yelling, swearing or sulking when the game doesn’t go the way you thought it would

Ignoring others, interrupting them or cutting them off when there are issues in the game

Boasting when I win
