Our Annual Music Gala will be held on Wednesday 2nd September in the Provence Centre.  Students performing must arrive at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start.  After the College musical, this is the biggest event that the Music Department conducts every year.  Along with it being our awards night, it is also the last opportunity for our year 12 students to perform prior to graduating. Over 200 students will be performing making up our Orchestras, Ensembles and small groups

This will be a great night for the students, and we hope you can join us.  No need to book – just put it in your diary and turn up.

Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF)

It has been a busy few weeks for Mazenod Music at the Victorian School Music Festival, with ensembles performing across strings and concert band sections.

  • Boyle Strings Ensemble began the run on Tuesday 28 July, receiving Silver in the Junior String Orchestra section under conductor Ms Solvei Jankowski.

  • Chamber Strings Ensemble followed on Wednesday 5 August, receiving Gold in the Senior String Orchestra section. Conducted by Ms Eugenie Lyons, this was the first time Chamber Strings had competed in the Senior section, making the result a major achievement for the group.

  • Mears Wind Band, conducted by Mr Chris Lee, received the Yamaha Performance Award in the Beginner Concert Band section on Monday 10 August. Adjudicator Rob McWilliams praised the group’s energy, technique and ensemble playing.

  • The Founders’ Ensemble completed the series on Friday 14 August, receiving Gold in the Junior Concert Band section under conductor Ms Meg Waugh. The group was the second largest in its section, the only ensemble to perform three pieces, and received strong praise from adjudicator Dr Joanne Heaton.

  • Rounding out the competition with another Gold was Premier Winds in the Advanced Concert Band section on Thursday 20 August under conductor Mr Doug Leutchford.

Congratulations to all students involved, and to the conductors who prepared them for each performance.

Timetables

We are still investigating the use of Clipboard for our music timetables.  In the interim, please refer to the Music Tile on MazCom for current Term 3 timetables.  Thank you for your patience.

Instrument Storage:

Students are reminded that instruments can be stored in the storage area at the rear of the Band Room in the Founders’ Complex.  Instruments should be taken home at the end of the day AND over school holidays. There have been multiple instances where instruments have been found lying outside. It is your son’s responsibility to look after their instrument. Any damages or loss caused by lack of care will be charged to the relevant family.

2026 Ensembles:

Ensemble rehearsals are now scheduled on Clipboard. This is the program that students use for sport.

The updated schedule can be found on MazCom
