Rugby League - NRL Storm Cup
Congratulations to our Senior Boys Rugby League team who defeated Manor Lakes Secondary College this week 32-4! Well done to the boys and coaches Mr Adam and Mr Swanson!
Below is an extract of the article that appeared in the Herald Sun. The video of the game is available on the Herald Sun website or via Kommunity TV.
Victoria University’s Jethro Scanlan had a day out as the reigning champions easily accounted for the new kids on the block, Manor Lakes, 32-4 in a Storm Cup round 2 match-up.
The fullback scored five tries in the contest to single-handedly guide the team to victory. He scored 24 of the 32 points.
Scanlan was impressive, not only being on the end of wonderful plays from Victoria University, but also able to break through the Manor Lakes defence twice to run almost the length of the field to score.
He also helped set up a try to Mathias Apera, who scored a double.
The reigning premiers just had too much class at times but the margin could have been more with a better kicking game.
Vic Uni missed five conversions, only getting the ones right in front of goal.
It was a spirited effort for Manor Lakes in the first game.
They did get outplayed throughout but showed glimpses that they are on the right path.
Manor Lakes had multiple chances to score but were held out by Vic Uni’s defence.
They also dealt with being down to 12 men late in the first half, after a sin bin, holding out Vic Uni during that time.
Manor Lakes was rewarded late with Harlem Smith scoring the team’s first-ever try in the competition.
His run down the right hand edge beat the Vic Uni defence to give the team a well crafted and deserved try.
The win sees Victoria University move to second place on the ladder with their first win of the season.
Manor Lakes is fourth with Mt Ridley yet to play their first game of the tournament, which will come in two weeks time.
