Year 11 Legal Studies Excursion

In April, Mr Anderson's Year 11 VCE Legal Studies class went on an excursion to the city. As part of this excursion, the students had a tour of the Victorian Parliament and visited Allens, a top tier commercial law firm, where they had the opportunity to talk with a variety of lawyers and non-legal professionals, participated in an office tour and had lunch.

In addition, the students competed in a Legal Studies treasure hunt that took them to a number of sites of legal interest around the city, including the Old Melbourne Gaol, the Great Petition sculpture and the former Melbourne Magistrates' Court. The winning team was the Wigged Warriors, comprising Ciara Allen, Samuel Cinzah, Charlotte Katoanga and Tony Nguyen. Importantly the students came away with some valuable insights into the law and the wide range of opportunities that a legal-related career can offer them.

Year 7 Camp - Phillip Island

Year 7 students and staff had an amazing time at Phillip Island earlier this term! Students enjoyed activities such as archery, high ropes course, canoeing, giant swing, beach walks and a movie night! Thank you to the staff who accompanied the students and helped them create special memories of their first year at high school.

Year 10 Police Visit

In April, Leading Senior Constable Matt Mudie and police prosecutor Senior Constable Carmel Elliott gave a presentation to Mr Anderson's Year 10 Deep Learning Legal Studies and Year 10 Economics and Legal Studies classes. The police officers answered a wide range of student questions about life in the police force, explained to students the powers that the police have to investigate crimes, as well as the rights that individuals have when they are arrested and questioned. They even entertained the students with stories of the strangest cases they have been involved in. The students were thoroughly engaged in the presentation and some of them are now investigating the possibility of a post-school career in the police force.

VCE VM Work Placement Program

In the newsletter we will be featuring our VCE Vocational Major students who are undertaking structured work placements as part of their VET studies. Work placements are important to ensure students gain experience in the workplace and have an opportunity to put into practice the skills and knowledge that they learn in their VET course.

Lana Prodanovic is in Year 12 & is undertaking a VET Certificate III in Acting (Screen). She is currently completing her work placement at 3ZZZ radio station.

Here's what Lana had to say about her experience so far:

So far so good. I was so nervous on my first day but everyone made me feel so welcome and happy. Now, on my second day, there were some nerves here and there but we got there in the end. I'm doing research and script writing, editing and recording in the studio which is such a good learning curve. I absolutely love it there. I'm learning so many new things and meeting new people! And I would definitely recommend 3ZZZ to any students who are interested.

Well done Lana!!

Gardening Club Update

We first started the Club during October last year and have been meeting at least twice a week at lunch times. After 6 months of work the Gardening Club has planted our first Garden bed at the Junior Campus.  The students have been putting their academic skills to work, using their Maths skills to measure the beds in A and C courtyards and then drawing them on graph paper where each square represented a metre square.

They then used their English skills to write the Club Goals and wrote letters to Bunnings and Ecodynamics asking for donations of tools and plants respectively.  Deer Park Garden Supplies has also donated a metre of soil.  The race is on now to get all of the donated plants in the soil while the weather is still a bit warm.
