School Council meeting 26th of October 2026

On the 26th of October, School Council met. The first item on the agenda was a report from JSC. JSC have been preparing for Remembrance Day, promoting the upcoming Colour Fun Run and Halloween dress up day.

Next, Jarrod presented the Principal’s Report, updating School Council on the projected 2027 school structure and expected increase in student numbers. The school has started staff recruitment for 20927. Foundation Transition has begun, providing our new students the opportunity to spend time in classrooms while parents participate in information sessions run by Daniel and Jarrod. The third and final transition session is fast approaching before Meet the Teacher in December.

The Class placement process has begun and an opportunity for families to provide information that can be considered to assist with the process will be communicated. This process goes for around a month where staff work towards multiple class drafts ensuring students’ academic and wellbeing needs are best supported. Graduation preparation has started and grade 6 students are working hard on their dance performance.

The School Review is happening this week, with student and staff focus discussion groups and classroom observations occurring.  The new agreement will increase Student Free days next year, moving from 4, to 8. These dates will be confirmed.  Lastly, Jarrod shared the good news that MPWPS has received their 2026 performance report stating that we have improved in both Academic and Wellbeing areas of the school which makes MPWPS a ‘High Performing School’.

Jason then reported back from the Resources committee,  where the financials for August and September were reviewed and upcoming fundraising events approved. This includes the Colour Fun Run, Election Day Barbeque and Cake Stall, Family Picnic and Christmas Raffle. The VSBA  will be commencing maintenance works on the 30th of October in the Library Building. The specialist classes are to be relocated and the library closed for the remainder of the year. Everything going well, this should be complete by the first day back in 2027. Camp Australia sent through their report, stating what they are working towards and how they are providing positive experiences for our kids.

Anna reported back from the Education Committee, sharing that staff had recently participated in De-escalation Training, looking at student behaviours and best practices. Staff have also participated in a Maths PL delivered by the Maths Curriculum Action Team, upskilling staff on Number Talks, Problem Based Learning and assessments. The Department of Education has released the new one-page student reports for 2027 which Jarrod presented to staff. Staff then brainstormed ways they could provide regular and personalised feedback to families about their child/rens learning.

The Community Engagement report noted the postive response to our three session transition program for 2027. The parent reps are reminding families of the upcoming events and preparing for family picnic day and other future fundraising.

Lastly on the agenda, we reviewed the 2027 Parent Contribution arragements that were discussed at the Resources meeting. The Parent Contribution arrangements for 2027 were tabled and approved.

The 2027 booklist's are currently being reviewed.

The Parent Contributions and booklist arrangements will be communicated with families shortly.
