Welcome to this week's edition of the Banyule Bulletin. Just like that we find ourselves halfway through the term and just weeks away from Christmas carols practice! As such, we continue to be busy in our community and behind the scenes with all things 2025 and 2026!

Cool to be Kind...

Happy World Kindness Day! Studies show that children who exhibit kindness are more socially accepted by peers. In other words, kids who are kind are more well-liked and have more friends. Not only that, kids who engage in acts of kindness improve their own wellbeing. Our URSTRONG friendship program has a strong focus on kindness and we are proud of how kind our BPS community can be.

Welcome 2026 Preps and Families!

This week we met lots of lovely new parents at our Prep 2026 Information Night. We could feel the excitement, curiosity and nervous energy in the room as parents officially began their journey as 'school parent' of Banyule Primary School. From lunchboxes to lost property and car parking to computers, our Prep Teaching Team talked through life as a Prep to parents eager to give their children the best start possible.

Tomorrow we look forward to welcoming our 2026 Preps to their first transition day. Our Prep team has planned some great activities to give our little visitors a taste of what's to come at school.

Out of this world!

We recently had a great opportunity to reinforce our gratitude to the amazing BPS teachers during World Teacher's Day. We know how hard our talented and committed teachers work before, during and after school hours to understand and support their students, but the opportunity to pause and share this gratitude on such a day is special.

We also felt extremely grateful to our supportive school community who rallied to provide heart-warming words of gratitude and thanks in the big book of Thank You, bettered only by the provision of a beautiful morning tea for our staff. Teachers really enjoyed the opportunity to read and share such wonderful words of support while devouring the most delicious sweet and savoury treats so, from us back to you all- 'THANK YOU'.

Feeling Sporty....

What a great day our House Sports was last week! It was great to see the oval flushed with red, yellow, blue and green pride as eager children cheered each other on during the many races on offer. Kids' sporty skills were definitely put to the test, be it balancing eggs on spoons, leaping in sack races, scrambling in water bucket challenges or dodging obstacles in a bid to secure the house points on offer. Aside from the sporting prowess on display, our most pleasing sight was the encouraging chants, pats on the backs, high fives and words of encouragement coming as naturally to children as their hand-eye-coordination.

Future Leaders...

One of the great jobs we have as school leaders is supporting our students to develop their own leadership skills. At Banyule Primary, this takes many forms. From classroom monitors to being inter-school sports captains, from Junior School Council representatives to Wellbeing Leaders and from Sustainability Captains to being a Grade 6 Buddy, there are a plethora of opportunities for our students' leadership skills to develop and shine. This week we have had the pleasure of interviewing students showing interest in Grade 6 Captain and leadership opportunities and it was lovely hearing their ideas, their strengths and their leadership ambitions. We look forward to announcing the successful candidates at our final assembly which, given the outstanding efforts of all the children during the application and interview process, gives us plenty of time to make what will be such a hard decision!!
