HOUSE ATHLETICS

Our Athletics Day last week was a brilliant success and a fantastic celebration of participation, effort and school spirit.

A sincere thank you to our wonderful parent community who supported the day by officiating events. Your time and willingness to help made a huge difference. We were also incredibly fortunate to have the support of the Mary MacKillop College students, who assisted throughout the day, as well as Leongatha Little Athletics, who provided a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Events like this simply couldn’t run as smoothly, or at all without the support of these valued members of our community, and we are very grateful.

It was fantastic to see so many smiles across the day. Our students embraced the opportunity to challenge themselves and give everything a go. It was particularly pleasing to see such strong participation and enthusiasm. This is exactly what the day is all about.

We are also proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of some of our exceptionally talented athletes. Several records were broken on the day:

  • Finn Hutchinson set a new Under 10 Boys 800m record, finishing in an impressive 2 minutes and 54 seconds.
  • Harlow Harris had an extraordinary day, breaking three records in the 10 Girls age group:
    • 800m: 3 minutes and 3 seconds
    • Triple Jump: 7.61 metres
    • 100m: 16.26 seconds

Congratulations to both Finn and Harlow on these remarkable achievements.

We also awarded special medallions to recognise excellence in key events. These awards are named in honour of Bert Pickersgill and Bruno Croatto, both loyal and long-serving parent helpers within the St Laurence community.

  • The Bert Pickersgill Medallion for the fastest 1500m runners was awarded to:
    • Leila Vagg (Girls)
    • Finn Hutchinson (Boys)
  • The Bruno Croatto Medallion for the best discus throw was awarded to:
    • Felicity Perczyk (Girls)
    • Casey Weaver (Boys)

The Age Champion title is awarded to the student in each age group who accumulated the highest number of points across all events on the day. Congratulations to our 2026 Age Champions:

  • Under 9 Girls: Madelyn Comber
  • Under 9 Boys: Harley White
  • Under 10 Girls: Harlow Harris
  • Under 10 Boys: Finn Hutchinson
  • Under 11 Girls: Brianna Comber
  • Under 11 Boys: Hunter McRae
  • Under 12/13 Girls: Felicity Perczyk
  • Under 12/13 Boys: Fletcher McRae

We congratulate all of these students on their outstanding efforts and achievements.

Finally, after all points were tallied across the day, the overall House results were:

  • 3rd Place: Blue House – 117 points
  • 2nd Place: Gold House – 120 points
  • 1st Place: Red House – 134 points

Congratulations to Red House on their victory, and to all students for their contribution, enthusiasm and team spirit in making the day such a success. - Mrs T

FROM BURGE'S BUS LINES

School Bus Operator Notice to Parents/Guardians of School Bus Travellers

We operate a school bus that services your child’s school, and we have always made yourchild’s safety and wellbeing our highest priority when providing our school bus services.

Policies

We have a Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy that states that all children have a right to be and feel safe. The welfare of the children we convey will always be our priority and we do not tolerate child abuse and harm. We aim to create an environment where children are safe and feel safe being transported in our fleet.

We also have a Code of Conduct that sets out the behaviour expected of all our staff and relevant contractors who engage with children in regard to keeping children safe. These two documents have been provided to your school, and are attached for your reference.

Does your child feel safe?

We encourage children to tell someone – you, a teacher, or their bus driver – if they have any concerns that make them feel unsafe. We also encourage you to be alert to any concerns that your child may express about feeling safe, and to let the school know of these concerns.
