✝️ Ash Wednesday ✝️

Our school community gathered to mark Ash Wednesday, a significant day in the Catholic calendar that begins the sacred season of Lent.

During our Mass, students and staff received ashes on their foreheads in the sign of the cross. The ashes are a symbol of repentance, humility and our commitment to grow closer to God through prayer, fasting and almsgiving throughout the 40 days of Lent.

Ash Wednesday invites us to pause, reflect and consider how we can strengthen our relationship with God and serve others with kindness and compassion. As a faith community, we are encouraged to think about the small sacrifices and positive actions we can take during this season to live more fully in the spirit of the Gospel.

We look forward to journeying together through Lent as we prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter.

🥞 Shrove Tuesday Celebrations 🥞

Our school community recently enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday, a special day in the Catholic calendar that marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday is a time of preparation and reflection before the more solemn period of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

Students had the opportunity to learn about the meaning behind the day — including why pancakes are traditionally eaten. Historically, families would use up rich ingredients such as eggs, milk and sugar before the Lenten season, making pancakes a fitting (and delicious!) tradition.

It was wonderful to see students come together in joy and gratitude as we shared pancakes and reflected on the importance of prayer, sacrifice and service during the season of Lent. Thank you to our staff and volunteers who helped make the day both meaningful and enjoyable for our students.

We look forward to journeying through Lent together as a faith community. Thank you to our Mini Vinnies committee for running our Shrove Tuesday fundraiser, successfully raising $78.

Catholic Principles & Values

Catholic principles and values (CPV's) are at the heart of everything we do in Armidale Catholic Schools. Our goal is to provide a truly Catholic education that invites students, parents, and staff into a deeper understanding of the human person and the dignity bestowed upon us because we are created in God’s image and likeness.

By grounding our schools in these principles, we strive to nurture compassionate, responsible, and faith-filled individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to society. If you would like to know more about the CPV's and how we live them everyday at St Mary of the Angels, please do not hesitate to contact our Religious Education Coordinator; Zoe Nugent.
