Year 8 Technology

Technology Humanoid Robotics Challenges
Rotation 1 2026
Over 2 lessons, student have been working with a humanoid robot to discover how to control and code it to perform different challenges.
Challenge 1: Dance Off!
Then students were asked to get their robots to dance to a set piece of music played and see whose robot could out dance the others. Robots have to continually move on the dance area otherwise, they are out. Students had to concentrate to make sure that their robot continued to move and didn’t fall over or hit any other robot in the process of their dancing.
Challenge 2: SUMO
Students had to show how they could hold out another robot in the SUMO competition where each team played against each other to see whose robot could push the other robot out of the Sumo ring. Rules include that if the robot fell over, they could pick them up (once only!) and place on the same spot. Disqualification for moving a robot to a spot away from where they fell over.
Challenge 3: Robot Wars
Finally, it was robot wars and students had to try to get the other robots out of the set area but stay in the set field area themselves. Students found this the most challenging.
Some comments from the Students:
“I learnt how to control the robot better.”
“Robots can dance.”
“We had difficulty moving our robot.”
“I learnt how to control the robot and how to work it.”
“I learnt it was hard to control and they can dance.”
“I learnt how robots work and coding with the robot.”
“How to use the robot.”
