FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION

The Mater Dei Catholic College and Mater Dei Catholic Primary School communities came together to celebrate Mass in honour of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary holds a sacred place in the mission of both our Schools, which are named in Latin, Mater Dei - meaning; Mother of God.

The theme of the Mass was ‘Crowned with Stars’. In the Book of Revelation, Mary is described as “a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.” When we look up at the night sky, let us remember Mary, crowned with stars, and the promise of God’s love and eternal life for each of us. Let the stars be a sign of God’s future of hope.

We were grateful to Fr Grace for leading our celebration and delighted to welcome Mater Dei Primary staff and parents for a special morning tea, with students enjoying activities on the College oval; a wonderful display of community spirit.

DAY IN THE DIOCESE

‘Alpha Youth’ is designed to engage students in conversations and questions about life, faith and Jesus. Currently the group is preparing to attend the ‘Day in the Diocese’ next Friday 5 September. ‘Day in the Diocese’ is a gathering of young people in response to the Jubilee Year’s call to be Pilgrims of Hope. It exists to provide young people, and their accompanying staff, in our Catholic schools an opportunity to encounter Jesus, be empowered to be hope-filled disciples in the world today and celebrate the Church in our Diocese.

The celebratory day is divided into three parts: catechesis, encounter and liturgy. We pray that this experience is enriching for our students and staff.

MOUNT ERIN BOARDING FAREWELL MASS

On Wednesday we gathered for a very special evening to farewell our Mount Erin Boarding School (MEBS) students at a beautiful Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark and Father Grace. The evening was filled with a heartfelt farewell as families, staff and students came together to reflect on their time and achievements at MEBS. Congratulations to our departing boarders, Chelsea, Mac and Campbell.

PARISH SCHOOLS MASS

This Saturday the 30th of August at 5.30pm we will join with Mater Dei Primary School and Sacred Heart Primary School to celebrate Mass at Sacred Heart Kooringal. Everyone is welcome to join us!

REFLECTION DAYS

Last week our Year 8 and Year 10 students participated in their annual Reflection Days. Based on Catholic Christian values and using the personal testimony of two dynamic presenters from  ‘Your Choicez’, students explored relationships and connections.

FATHER'S DAY

Next weekend we offer a special tribute to all fathers, as well as those who have taken on the role of fatherhood to us and our families.

We acknowledge with gratitude the various ways that fathers contribute to our daily lives and give us a role model of care, understanding and love.

CANONISATION OF BLESSED CARLO ACUTIS - 7 SEPTEMBER

As we prepare to witness the canonisation of Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, we take a moment to reflect on the inspiring legacy he leaves behind. Carlo’s short but powerful life reminds us that even the smallest flame can chase away darkness. He stood out not by seeking attention, but by choosing love over likes, truth over trends and faith over fear.

In a world that often urges us to blend in, Carlo's courage challenges us to shine brightly, to live with purpose, and to make our faith visible in everyday moments. May his example light up our hearts and inspire us all to live with boldness and joy.
