Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s,

Singapore/Japan History Tour

We wish Ms Alison Haddon-Cave, Mr Will Geeves and Dr Josh Boland all the very best as they depart next week with students on the Singapore and Japan History Tour. This tour has involved many months of careful preparation, and I acknowledge the considerable work undertaken by the staff in supporting the planning process. The experience will provide our Senior School students with a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of Singapore and Japan, including the impact of World War II on both countries and their respective roles during that period. I also thank the staff accompanying the group, as opportunities such as this require a significant commitment of time, care and professional responsibility. We wish all travellers a safe and enriching journey and hope it proves to be a memorable and formative experience for our students, particularly those travelling outside Australia for the first time. 

Choomalaka Festival and Feast

After months of preparation, the Choomalaka Festival and Feast has arrived. We look forward to students sharing their talents in the visual and performing arts this evening. Food vans and art display will be available from 3.15pm, with performances commencing at 5pm. We warmly encourage families, staff and members of the wider College community to attend in support our students and colleagues. I thank Mr Daniel Bevan, Head of the Arts, Mrs Gabrielle Ball, Director of Music, and Mr Brent and Kay Scanlon, Visual Arts Teachers for their significant contribution to this event and wish them, and all involved, every success this evening. 

Transfer of Leadership Assembly

Congratulations to Sam Lee, who has been appointed College Captain for 2027, Riley McCreghan, who has been appointed College Vice-Captain, and Spencer Hallsworth, who has been appointed Student Voice. At today’s Transfer of Leadership Assembly, Sam, Riley and Spencer formally received their leadership responsibilities from the 2026 student leaders. We also acknowledge and thanked College Captain Xavier Wright, Vice-Captain Joshua Topham and Student Voice Luke Morrisby for their dedicated service to the College.

Xavier spoke exceptionally well to the assembled students and staff, reflecting with maturity on the values of a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition and the ways in which those values have shaped his life and thinking. The members of the 2027 College Students Leadership team were also announced. We congratulate all students appointed to leadership positions and look forward to working with them in the year ahead.

2027 Planning

As we look ahead to 2027, the College is continuing its planning for the year ahead. This includes finalising student subject selections, developing timetables and confirming staffing arrangements. As part of this process, a number of new and replacement teaching positions are being advertised to ensure we continue to provide strong programs and support for our students.  

Several positions will be advertised following advice from staff members who will be leaving the College at the end of the year to take up opportunities in Tasmania and interstate. 

After 16 years of dedicated service to St Virgil’s, Mr Michael Moschoghianis has resigned from his role as Director of Sport and Community Liaison. Mr Moschogianis will conclude his employment on Friday 4 December, having accepted a new position as General Manager with Race One Surf Craft, a Queensland-based company operating in the surf lifesaving and ocean paddling industry. We thank Mr Moschogianis for his outstanding contribution to the College over many years and wish him every success as he begins this new chapter. Mrs Moschogianis is expected to continue in her role at the College until April 2027 before relocating to the Gold Coast. 

Mr Aaron Lucas has confirmed that he will resign from his position as VET Hospitality/Cookery and Food Technology Teacher at the end of the year, after 11 years of dedicated service to the College. During his time at St Virgil’s, Mr Lucas has played an instrumental role in establishing the Food Technology resources and facilities, while also developing Vocational Education and Training pathways in Cookery and Hospitality. His work has created meaningful opportunities for students to explore pathways into the food and hospitality industry, while also developing practical cooking skills for life. Mr. Lucas leaves a strong and lasting legacy at the College. 

Mr Trent Prouse, Pathways Learning Support Officer has advised that he will leave at the end of this term having accepted a promotion with the South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation. We congratulate Mr Prouse on his appointment and thank him for the significant role he has played in supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. We wish him every success in this exciting new chapter.  

The recruitment process will commence shortly, and the College will update the community on successful appointments in the coming weeks.
