Four Easter Story Paintings by Australian Aboriginal Artist Linda Naparula Walker

Australian Aboriginal artist Linda Naparula Walker is a Warlpiri woman from Yuendumu Community in Central Australia. Her father taught her to paint when she was a teenager. He told her all the stories she could paint and share through her art. In 2011 Linda created four Easter paintings that show the progression of Easter week events from Palm Sunday through Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

This week’s newsletter is a short one, but it includes some important information for this week and next. Please take a moment to read through carefully.

Friday, April 24th, - Feast Day of our school's patron saint

St Fidelis.

St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen is recognized as the patron saint of lawyers and peace. He is known for his unwavering commitment to the truth and his tireless efforts to promote justice and peace in a time of great conflict and violence.

Our school will celebrate this day on Friday May 1st in the following way:

An Invitation is extended to our whole community to celebrate our Whole School Mass at 9:15am. The students will then enjoy a day filled with special activities.

9:15 am	Whole School Mass St Fidelis Feast Day - All Welcome
10:00am-11:00am	St Fidelis Activities - Who is St Fidelis?
11:40-1:30pm	Mixed year level games (F-5) Year 6 students to organize and conduct the group games with teacher assistance
1:30-1:50pm	Lunch Order Day (Sushi and Anzac Biscuit) Free Zooper Dooper for all students (please email your child's teacher if you do not want your child to receive a Zooper Dooper)
2:30-3:30pm	Students back to their own classrooms

ANZAC DAY SERVICE FRIDAY APRIL 25TH @COBURG RSL

On Saturday 25th April the Coburg RSL will be holding a dawn service for ANZAC DAY. We were kindly invited to attend this special service. I will be attending with our School Captains and their parents.

The children will have the privilege of laying a wreath on behalf of our school during the service. You are all invited to attend. It begins at 6:00am at Coburg RSL, 323 Sydney Road Coburg.

If you have never been to a dawn service it is a very moving experience and well worth attending once in your lifetime.

Next Monday April 27th we will hold a commemorative service for ANZAC Day ay 10:30am. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces became known as ANZACs.

Anzac Day is a commemoration of the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli, Turkey on 25 April in 1915.This is a very special day in Australia’s history.

The service will be held on Hawthorn yard around our flagpoles and memorial garden (weather permitting) at 10:30am and we welcome as many of our families as possible to be part of this service.

The service will be led by our Year 3 students.

We also welcome a member from the RSL Mr Scott Smith (Navy veteran) who will lay a wreath and read the Oath, as well as Anthony Cianflone, our local MP, who will say a few words to commemorate this important day.

Year 5/6 Camp Monday 20th April May to Wednesday 22nd April | Sovereign Hill Camp

All Year 5/6 students, along with the Year 5/6 teaching team, Mr Jennings, Ms Wenckowski, Ms Zorzut , Ms Pirrotta & Mrs Watson (Tuesday only), will be attending School Camp at Sovereign Hill from Monday 20th April to Wednesday 22nd April.

Camp provides a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in valuable learning experiences outside the classroom. The weather forecast is looking positive.

A special thank you to our dedicated teachers who are generously giving up their personal time to make this camp possible for your children.

Please note that classes will run as normal on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th April for all Year 5/6 students. However, there will be replacement teachers on these days.

Welcome MACSEYE - | (OSHC) As you are aware Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) has informed me that MACSEYE will be our new Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) provider for our students and families and will commence Monday April 20th.

We welcome Shumaita to St Fidelis as our new OSHC coordinator. She will begin on Monday April 20th at 7:00am.

MACSEYE is a newly approved provider, set up by the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) to offer a range of early childhood and school-aged care programs.

MACSEYE is committed to see every child and family flourish. Their programs are designed to foster a sense of identity, health and well-being.

As a Catholic provider, MACSEYE will have strong links with our school and local parish, working together to build a vibrant community of support for children and families. STUDENTS ART WORK DISPLAYED AT EMILS CAFE

We are delighted to share some exciting news from St Fidelis, where the creativity of our students is now shining beyond the classroom walls. Six beautiful student artworks are currently on display at Emil’s Café, 347 Reynard Street Pascoe Vale South, offering the wider community a glimpse into the imagination, talent, and expression of our young artists.

At the end of last term, Mr Frazzetto delivered the artworks to Emil’s Café, transforming part of the cafe's space into a small gallery filled with colour and stroy. Each piece reflects a unique voice and perspective:

From joyful colour and playful beginnings in Foundation, to thoughtful reflection and faith filled expression in the senior years, these artworks tell a story of growth, imagination, and pride in learning.

We extend a special thanks to George and Johnny El-Khoury for generously displaying our students’ work. Their support has created a meaningful opportunity for our young artists to be celebrated in the community.

We encourage families to visit Emil’s Café, enjoy a coffee, and take a moment to view the creativity and spirit of our St Fidelis students on display.

Important Things to Remember:

Winter Uniform Transition - Full winter uniform begins Monday, May 11th.
School hats are no longer required in Term 2, in line with our SunSmart policy.
Punctuality matters – please ensure students arrive at school on time, ready for a great day of learning. Gates close at 8:50 sharp. Parents can you please ensure you are out of the classroom by 8:50am
Label everything – especially jumpers and jackets.
Upcoming Events – Check the parent calendar on NFORMA for upcoming excursions, assemblies, and special events.
Instagram - Please stay updated on our Instagram for events, weekly timetable , celebrations etc…
Communication – If your child is going to be absent or late, please notify the school office as early as possible via Nforma App.
