Principal's Report

Parent / Teacher Interview and Student House Events

A reminder that Semester 1 Reports will be released via Compass this Friday. Parent/Teacher Interviews will then take place on the following Monday and Tuesday. We strongly encourage families to take this opportunity to celebrate successes and discuss next steps for learning. If a teacher has indicated "Interview Required" on your child's report, please ensure you have booked a time, either in person or online, during the allocated interview period. If an interview has not been requested but you would still like to discuss your child's progress, bookings can also be made through the Compass portal. Please note that Mr. Reid, our Arts teacher, is currently on leave and will not be available for appointments.

During the Parent/Teacher Interview days, all students will participate in a whole-school House event in the gymnasium. Students can look forward to a Torquay College version of Family Feud, Guess the Song, student presentations about recent camps and experiences, Indonesian dancing performances and a short showcase from our school choir. Parents are welcome to attend these activities throughout the day. If students are departing prior to 3:00pm, please ensure they are signed out through the office and provide the sign-out slip to a staff member in the gym before leaving.

Student Achievements

Congratulations to our Divisional Soccer Team on their outstanding victory last week. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing them represent Torquay College at the Regional Championships. We also wish our Divisional AFL Team and Regional Cross Country representatives all the very best for their competitions today. Your dedication and commitment to training is commendable, and we know you will represent our school with pride.

Across classrooms, students have continued to produce outstanding work as they deepen their understanding through our CORE Knowledge and Literacy units. Whether learning about the First Fleet, exploring Extreme Weather, creating fascinating fungi projects in STEAM, or developing market stall experiences in Indonesian, students have demonstrated curiosity, creativity and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. It has been wonderful to see the knowledge they have built transferred into high-quality work and engaging classroom and home discussions.

We are also pleased that all students across the school have participated in Cyber Safety sessions delivered by Victoria Police throughout the term, helping students build important knowledge and skills for navigating the online world safely and responsibly. We encourage families to take advantage of the excellent resources available through the eSafety Commissioner. With the upcoming school holiday, and some students accessing time online, we recommend the free parent webinars and practical resources that provide valuable guidance on topics such as social media, gaming, cyberbullying, online safety and managing screen time. We encourage all parents and carers to explore these resources to help support safe and positive online experiences for children and young people.

We also love celebrating our students achievements outside of school, so please continue to let us know about these so we can recognise their success at assemblies and send along a photo if you are happy to share it on our socials.

Foundation Enrolment

All Victorian government primary schools follow a statewide timeline for enrolling in Foundation (Prep) for the 2027 school year.

If you have a child starting primary school in 2027, it’s time to enrol. Make sure to submit your enrolment application by Friday 31 July 2026

If you are enrolling the sibling of a student at our school for Foundation in 2027, and both children will be attending our school at the same time, your child is prioritised for a place at our school. It is important to submit your enrolment application to us on time as it will ensure your child is included in all transition activities if offered enrolment at our school. This also allows us to plan our classrooms, staffing and transition activities, and ensures your child has the best start to school.

For more information, please read about how to enrol your child in Foundation at vic.gov.au/enrolling-foundation-prep

If you would like to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) in 2027, please contact our school office on 52612360 or torquay.p6.co@education.vic.gov.au to book a school tour or request an application form. You can also book in for one of our schedule tours at https://compasstix.com/e/ht5jhpejln

Community Engagement

One of the great strengths of Torquay College is our strong connection with families and the wider community. This evening, School Council will be discussing several exciting community engagement opportunities and fundraising events that we look forward to sharing with families soon. Further information will be released prior to the end of Term 2 and again at the commencement of Term 3. There are some fantastic whole-family events on the horizon, along with a special opportunity for those who enjoy a day out on the golf course. We encourage families to keep an eye on Compass and our social media channels for announcements in the coming weeks.

Looking Ahead

Term 3 promises to provide many exciting opportunities for our students. Our talented athletes will once again have the chance to represent Torquay College through City to Surf District Athletics, Western Metro Regional Hockey and, hopefully following today's results, another team progressing through to State level competition. We are also hopeful of seeing several students qualify to represent our school at the State Cross Country Championships.

Our Year 5 and Year 6 students will participate in the Sexual Health Education Program during Term 3. This important program supports students to develop age-appropriate knowledge and understanding around health, relationships and personal development and will be delivered in line with Department of Education guidelines by Sexual Health Victoria.

Finally, we look forward to welcoming Mrs. Kahle and Foxy back to school at the conclusion of this term. Their return will be warmly welcomed by staff, students and families alike.

On behalf of all staff at Torquay College, thank you for your support throughout Term 2. We wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to seeing our students return refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning. A reminder that the final day of Term 2, Friday 26 June, will conclude with an early dismissal at 2:00pm. If your child requires Outside School Hours Care from 2:00pm onwards, please ensure bookings are made directly with OSHC.

Kind Regards,

Amy Snow
