Student Poetry - Sister Heart

This term, our Grade 5/6 students have been exploring the novel Sister Heart by Sally Morgan. Through this text, they have developed their understanding of friendship, family, identity, culture, resilience, and the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the impact of the Stolen Generations.

Throughout the unit, students looked at free verse poetry techniques such as stanza structure, enjambment, figurative language, and alliteration to communicate powerful ideas and emotions. They then used these techniques themselves to construct their own free verse poems based on this novel.

We couldn’t be prouder of the amazing effort that our 5/6 cohort has put into this work.
