From the Prin and the AP

End of Term 2 -
As we come to the end of another busy and successful term, we would like to sincerely thank our families for your ongoing support, partnership, and contribution to our school community.
Working together makes a significant difference to the learning and well-being of our students.
It is hard to believe that our Prep students are now halfway through their very first year of school. They have grown tremendously in confidence, independence, and learning, and we look forward to celebrating their 100 Days of School milestone next term.
At the other end of the school journey, our Grade 6 students are entering the final stretch of their primary school years. There are many exciting experiences and opportunities ahead as they begin preparing for the transition to secondary school.
As we head into the winter holiday break, we encourage families to make the most of opportunities to connect and spend time together. While the colder weather can make it more challenging to be active, simple activities such as walks, games, reading, cooking, or exploring the local community can support both physical and mental well-being. We also encourage a healthy balance with screen time, allowing children plenty of opportunities to engage, create, play, and connect with those around them.
We wish all of our students and families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back next term.
Child Safety Code of Conduct
School Council has recently endorsed our updatedChild Safety Code of Conduct.
Our Child Safety Code of Conduct sets out the expected behaviour of adults with children and young people in our school. All Golden Square Primary School staff, volunteers, contractors, service providers, school council members and any other adult involved in child-connected work must follow the Child Safety Code of Conduct.
The Child Safety Code of Conduct applies to all physical and online environments used by students. It also applies during or outside of school hours and in other locations provided by the school for student use (for example, a school camp).
All policies are available on our school website and you are welcome to provide feedback on these at any time.
Early Finish and Assembly
A reminder that school will finish at 2:30pm on Friday - the last day of term. Families are asked to please make arrangements for student collection at this earlier time.
We will also be holding our assembly in the morning at 9:15am. Families are, as always, welcome to attend.
Travel to higher risk areas over the school holidays - Diptheria
If your family is travelling to a higher risk area, the Department of Health recommends that you:
- check your family’s diphtheria vaccinations
consider getting vaccinated if you or your family have not had a diphtheria vaccine in the past 5 years.
You can check your diphtheria vaccination records:
- on your Medicare online account through MyGov or by contacting the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809
- on your personal health records, such as your childhood immunisation records
by speaking to your GP, immunisation provider or Aboriginal Health Service.
You can also check if your family is up to date with other vaccinations before travel in Australia or overseas.
About diphtheria
Diphtheria is a serious infection. It can affect the skin or the nose, throat and airways. In severe illness, it can affect the heart, kidneys and nerves.
It is spread through close contact with an infected person, through skin sores, or droplets from coughs, sneezes and saliva. Sometimes it can spread through contact with contaminated items such as towels or shared objects.
People who are not fully immunised have higher risk of severe illness. Pregnant women, children aged under 5 years and those with weakened immune systems also have higher risk.
Free diphtheria vaccinations
Vaccination is free for:
- people aged less than 20 years who need a catch-up vaccination
- refugees and humanitarian entrants
- pregnant women
some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
For more information about eligibility, refer to the Department of Health’s diphtheria booster vaccination campaign.
Vaccination is available at your GP, local pharmacist, local council or Aboriginal Health Service. Call ahead to see if you are eligible for a free vaccine.
Please note that there are no restrictions on travel to Northern Territory, Western Australia, or South Australia based on vaccination status.
