CGPS Swimming Program

Our annual Swimming Program will be taking place this term, with each year level participating during their allocated week.

Swimming is a compulsory part of our school curriculum, and all students are expected to participate. Throughout their week, students will complete five 30-minute swimming lessons with qualified swimming instructors. Lessons will take place during normal school hours, with students walking with their teachers to and from the swimming venue.

Consent is required for all students to attend. Consent can be provided through the Compass event, by emailing the school with written consent, or by visiting the school office to sign a consent form. Students who are not participating in the swimming lessons will still travel with their class to the swimming venue and will therefore also require parent/carer consent to attend the venue.

We strongly encourage all students to participate in this important part of our Health and Physical Education program, which supports the development of essential swimming and water-safety skills.

What to bring:

  • Bathers (best worn under school clothes to start the day)
  • A plastic bag for wet clothes
  • Towel
  • Dry underwear
  • Waterproof footwear (thongs, sandals or slides)
  • Goggles (strongly recommeded)
  • Swim cap (optional)

Please have your child wear their bathers underneath their clothes when they come to school. This will save time and mean they do not need to change into their bathers when they arrive at the pool. We also recommend labelling all items your child brings to the pool, as belongings can sometimes be misplaced or left behind.

A huge thank you to the family and community volunteers who give their time to support our students throughout the program. Events and programs like this rely on the support of our community.  We are currently seeking family volunteers to meet groups at school, walk to and from the venue with the class and help supervise once at the pool. If you are interested, please fill out this form or contact Curtis.dewitt@education.vic.gov.au with any questions.

Finally, a big thank you to Curtis and Megan for all of the organisation and coordination that goes on behind the scenes to make the Swimming Program possible for our students.
