JOY!
Tanya Vaughan, Deputy Principal - Head of Primary
When was the last time you challenged yourself to learn something new? Whether it is a new hobby, a new language, a new recipe or new software program, learning requires GRIT and persistence – and it can be hard! Yet, we know that JOY can be found at every stage of the learning process, and should be embraced and celebrated along the way.
JOY is a deep, abiding confidence and delight that comes from knowing that God is faithful and remains our helper, regardless of circumstances. JOY is not dependent on circumstances and wins; it doesn’t necessarily bring happiness and isn’t swayed when the challenge comes. JOY is strengthened by prayer and in trusting the truth of God’s word. From a heart of JOY flows gratitude, hope and peace, as we draw upon the strength and relationship we have with Jesus.
Every day our students are presented with the challenge of learning. Some are learning to read, to write, to collaborate and share, to problem solve, to play fairly and others are learning to be kind. For them too, everyday learning can be hard, slow moving and even frustrating at times. Teaching our students how to find and celebrate JOY during a challenge encourages them to dig deeper, persevere a little longer and appreciate the journey of learning. JOY helps them to develop GRIT.
In our classrooms, during play and at home, JOY comes as students:
achieve their goals.
It is our deep hope that as our students engage with a rigorous curriculum and challenging learning experiences that help them develop both their understanding and skills, they will find and experience the JOY that comes from being GRITTY and digging deep.
