Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27
This week, children in Years 3 and 5 will be taking part in NAPLAN. For some children, tests can feel exciting, but for others they can bring anxiety or pressure. When faced with nerves or challenging feelings, this is a great time for us to bring our worries to God. God did not create us to be fearful. He created us to be strong and courageous with his inner peace. Through prayer, God offers us a sense of peace that surpasses any anxiety. In Him, we can rest assured that whatever the outcome, we will be more than OK.
If your children are feeling anxious this week, this is the perfect time to pray for them or to teach them how to pray against anxiety. The Bible says, we can do ALL THINGS through CHRIST who gives us STRENGTH (not anxiety). Teaching our children to battle tough times with prayer will be the best tool they can ever learn.
As a school community, it is a good time to remind our children that while doing their best is important, their worth is never measured by a test result. During this time, we can encourage children to try their best and persevere through tough moments. NAPLAN is simply one opportunity for children to show what they have learned so far. It does not define who they are, what they are capable of or the many wonderful qualities they bring to our community. Christ has created each child with their unique strengths, talents and ways of learning.
Philippians 4:6-7 and Philippians 4:13 will help guide your children through what may be a challenging and nerve-racking time. I encourage you to share these verses with your children, unpacking what they mean and why they’re important.
Memory verse: “When in a fix, Philippians 4:6”
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13
Loving God,
Thank you for the unique gifts and talents you have placed within the children in our school community. As they take part in their NAPLAN tests this week, please give them calm hearts and clear minds. Help them to do their best and to remember that their worth comes from being loved by You. Give them confidence, perseverance and peace and help them to approach each challenge with courage.
Amen.
