NAPLAN

Next week, our Year 3 and 5 children will participate in the annual NAPLAN testing, along with every child in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across Australia.

This process and period of the school year can be a stressful time for children and families, especially with some of the ways NAPLAN is addressed in the media.  As a community, we are committed to supporting our children throughout this process, encouraging them to do their best whilst also recognising that this is only one, very narrow, way of assessing children’s academic achievement.

We thank our teachers for nurturing a culture of learning that values mistakes as learning opportunities. Our teachers explain to our children that these tests help teachers know how to better help them in their learning and that otherwise they are primarily for our government to track learning across the whole country. It is also helpful for children to be aware that in

Our teachers’ regular assessment practices remain the most effective measure of your child’s success. If you have any questions about your child’s learning, I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher.
