Living the Fruits of the Spirit this Lent

Lent is a special time in the Christian calendar as individuals prepare themselves for Easter. It is a season for slowing down, reflecting, prayer and growing closer to God and to one another.

Often during lent, people choose to go without something for 40 days. The 40 days symbolizes Jesus’ time in the wilderness. Another way to experience Lent is by choosing to live something out

The Bible teaches us about the Fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness and self-control”.

These fruits are qualities God helps grow in us, when we choose to follow him.

This Lent, instead of focusing on something that I would go without, I have focused on who I am becoming. Each day, I am picking a fruit of the Spirit and am trying to show it through my words, actions and choices. This may be something you would like to try as well whether it is at school, at home or with your friends. Small acts of kindness, patience, and love can make a big difference.

As we journey towards Easter, I hope this time helps you to grow your hearts, reflecting God’s love more clearly each day.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for this season of Lent. May we choose ways that honour and helps us become more like Jesus in all that we do. Help us to grow the fruits of the Spirit in our hearts each day.

Amen.
