Leadership Report

Term 1, Week 3

Dear Families,

This year, school newsletters will be published every odd week as per the schedule below on a Monday (excluding week 1 and public holidays).

  • Week 1: Friday 30th January
  • Week 3: Monday 9th February
  • Week 5: Monday 23rd February
  • Week 7: Monday 9th March
  • Week 9: Monday 23rd March

Each newsletter will include information about various curriculum areas, whole school events and information. Based on feedback from families, we will also endeavour to streamline COMPASS notifications to Mondays and Wednesdays each week, including weekly class newsletter each Monday.

This week’s newsletter introduces our school leadership team, explaining more about their roles, key responsibilities, and contact information. Please enjoy reading about our leaders and the important work they do at Williamstown North Primary School.

The Department of Education places strong emphasis on schools working as networks, and we actively participate in the Hobsons Bay network of schools. For the past three years, Richard has led this network of 26 ranging Point Cook through to Spotswood. Part of this role includes leading a network executive team of 12 local principals, liaising with other network leaders, Hobsons Bay school leaders, the Department, and Industry experts. This role usually requires on average a day each week either out of office or onsite facilitating the work. This week Richard will be offsite in Ballarat on Thursday for a region wide network chairs meeting.

Our active role in the Hobsons Bay network has provided valuable opportunities for our staff to work closely with other schools and experts in practice, supporting both best practice and Department guidelines. Through our membership in the network, we have worked with teaching and learning experts such as Nathanial Swain, as well as leaders in the Positive Classroom Management Strategies space. We have also accessed leading organisational culture–building professionals like Mark Corrie, who not only works with schools and school leaders but also supports the broader Department of Education organisational culture, by working with ministers and deputy secretaries.

This year, both Shevani Moodley and Jonathon Skipworth are participating in the Department of Education’s Unlocking Potential course delivered by the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Learning. This is a unique opportunity to develop their professional knowledge, capabilities and confidence to lead for learning in ways that significantly impact students and outcomes, collective efficacy, and schoolwide improvement as well as principal preparation.

Our Leading Teachers and Learning Specialists are also participating in leadership coaching and other Department of Education facilitated middle leader courses to explore leadership concepts, develop leadership skills and their ability to lead school improvement through evidence-informed practices.

To have such a strong leadership team, so open to learning, is a testament to the dedication of our staff and sets up our school and students to have all the success this year. This also ensures our staff are developing in their roles and abreast of the latest pedagogical and leadership content and we wish everyone a productive and positive 2026.

This Friday, we are hosting a special morning tea to present our student leaders with their badges and a certificate to commemorate their achievement in being awarded these roles. We will be welcoming the students, their parents and important others to join us for the morning.

During Week 4, we will have our 10 minute Parent Teacher Interviews (Meet & Greets). Please log into Compass and book a time to meet with your child’s teacher and share any important information they need to know about your student. This is a great opportunity to share anything that will support your child’s education and build a strong home-school relationship.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions, need further information, and/or would like to discuss anything specific.

Kind regards,

Richard, Shevani, and Jonathon
