Week 2 Lent - Sunday 1st March

Sunday's Gospel: Matthew 17:1-8

Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain. While they were there, something amazing happened. Jesus began to shine with a bright light. His face was glowing and his clothes were as white as light. Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Jesus. Peter was amazed and said, “Lord, it is good to be here.” 

A bright cloud covered them, and a voice from heaven said,

“This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him.” The friends felt scared and fell to the ground.

Jesus came to them and said, “Do not be afraid.” When they looked up, they only saw Jesus.

The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel Reflection:

Peter, James and John saw Jesus in a new way. 

They saw God’s light shining through him.

We do not usually see bright glowing light like that, 

but we do see God’s light in other ways.

Sometimes God’s light shines when:

• someone includes a lonely child

• someone forgives

• someone tells the truth

• someone helps without being asked

Jesus says to us, “Listen to me. 

Follow my way of love.”

During Lent we practice listening to Jesus:

• with our ears

• with our hearts

• and with our actions.
