Today was such an exciting day for 32 of our Year 5 & 6 students, who headed off to Thornbury to compete in the AeroSchool Aerobics Championships.  All thirty-two girls should be extremely proud of all the training and preparation they've put in to get to this day of competition.  We have five teams that participated in the Championships today, performing their 1.05 minute aerobics routine to a fast but catchy song; Houdini. Coaches Olivia, Ange and Tilly from Bayside Gymnastics have been amazed at the dedication and commitment from the girls, always putting in 100% in each of their training sessions.

A massive thank you to all parents of these girls who have supported their child in getting them all set for today.  We'd also like to make a special mention to Kellie A. for her amazing support with the sizing and ordering of their leotards and outfit items.   We can't wait to hear all about their experiences tomorrow. Good luck girls!

If sunshine, sore legs, and a whole lot of House pride are anything to go by, last Friday-week’s Whole School Athletics Carnival at the Duncan McKinnon Athletics Track was an absolute cracker!  From the first start call, throw of vortex, to the last relay baton pass, both our Junior and Senior carnivals were buzzing with energy, effort, and enthusiasm.

It was so pleasing to see students giving it their all sprinting down the track, floating high and long in the long jump pit and cheering their House along!  All of our students certainly brought their absolute best; and the sportsmanship on display all day was something all St. Finbar’s students are to be really proud of.

A massive thank you! None of this happens without an army of wonderful helpers, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to our incredible parent helpers and past students, who gave up their Friday to time races, marshall students, run events and activities, and keep everything moving smoothly. We’d also like to thank the students from SEDA Basketball and St. Mary's College, who came along to help run events and support our students throughout the day also! To all our Parent helpers; your generosity and energy made the carnival the success it was - thank you!

Winning House

Congratulations to Xavier House, who took out the Junior Carnival, and to Nagle House, who claimed victory in the Senior Carnival. When the Junior and Senior scores were combined, it was Nagle House who came out on top as the overall winning House! A huge congratulations goes to all Nagle team members on a fantastic combined effort across the day. Our Nagle Sports Captains — Olivia F, Boston O. and Kai M — could not have been prouder as they hoisted the perpetual winning House shield high for all to see. Well done, Team Nagle!

Andrew Lesniewski Award:

Finally, a very special congratulations to our Year 6 recipients of the Andrew Lesniewski Award: Nina T and Xavier W. This award recognises students who best embody the personal qualities of our much-loved past student, who passed away during his time at St. Finbar’s from a virus that attacked his heart.  Both Nina and Xavier showed those qualities in spades over the day, through their positive attitude, support and encouragement of others, and enormous House spirit.

Congratulations to every student who took part, to all four Houses for competing with pride, and everyone who helped make the day such a success.

District team selection

The SSV age group lists have now been sorted, with many students having to select only 2 events to compete in at Districts (a SSV ruling).  Results and team lists will be finalised by late next week and the District team will be shared with students then. The Dendy District carnival is set for Friday 28th of August at Duncan McKinnon Reserve.

Following on from the Senior HoopTime tournament late last term, we had so many of our Year 3 & 4 students keen to tryout for the Junior HoopTime teams.  We were very excited this year to be able to send along eight Junior teams - a record amount of teams sent on one day for St. Finbar’s!  Our Junior teams also played their tournament at Nunawading stadium and we are proud to say, they did so with open-minds, a willingness to adjust their game, listen well to coaches advice and keep a positive mind-set each game; no matter the refs call.

With our ever-amazingly supportive parents and staff, our teams played well and displayed some wonderful team-spirited efforts in each game.  Teams played various schools, including Templestowe Heights, Erasmus PS, Glen Iris PS, Solway PS, Box Hill North PS and Templeton PS.

Congratulations to our Future Stars Girls team and All Star Boys team, who ended up winning their Grand final and will now participate in Regional HoopTime.  Our Future Star Frogs also had a great day, making it through to the semi finals and our other five teams all played some great competitive games over their day, with wins, draws and losses for them all.

THANK YOU’S: A massive thank you goes to our parent- coaches; as well as the ‘amazingly-calm-whilst-under-pressure’ scoring parents…. Known by many to be a tougher gig than the coaching role!  Special thanks to Coaches; Chris O., Kirrie W, James G, & Nat. G, Andrea L, Gerrit H.,, and to our consistent scorers; you know who you are!

Our players would like to also thank the many parents that popped out for part or full day to support our teams!  We certainly had an amazing cheer squad!  Thanks to our supportive attending staff: Miss Gourley, Miss Daly, Miss McKinnon and Mrs McDonald for assisting with supervision and scoring over the day as well!
