Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
All saints have dedicated feast days when they are remembered with special mention and prayers. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s Feast Day falls on 8th August, the date she died.
Mary’s feast day is a wonderful time to reflect on the qualities and actions that set her apart and on how her legacy remains relevant today. At the age of 24, she dedicated her life to God and took on the name “Mary of the Cross”.
Mary was remarkable as a strong female leader in 19th-century Australia. Education in Australia is what it is today, thanks in large part to the dedication and determination of Mary and the order of nuns she formed, known as the Sisters of St Joseph (Josephites). Mary believed in the power of education to lift communities out of poverty, famously saying, “I’m a teacher, let’s start today!”
As a Josephite school, Corpus Christi was led by the Sisters of St Joseph from 1942 until the end of the 1999 school year. We aspire to continue to live and work by St Mary's fine example.
Families are welcome to join us at Mass on Friday 7th August at 9:15 am to celebrate St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Ever generous God,
You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop
To live her life faithful to the Gospel of
Jesus Christ
and constant in bringing hope and encouragement to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.
We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit so that we too,
like Mary MacKillop, may live with
courage, trust and openness.
Ever generous God hear our prayer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ.

Sacrament of Confirmation
This Sunday 9th August, our Year 6 Confirmation candidates will receive the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Martin Ashe and Fr Werner Utri will lead our celebration at St Augustine's Church. Please keep the children in your prayers as they take this next step in their faith journey.
Heavenly Father,
God of power and of love.
We pray for the children who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
May your Holy Spirit help them to grow
in faith, hope and love.
May they come to know you
as the one true God
who loves them without limit.
May their hearts welcome you gladly;
May their ears hear your voice in the scriptures;
May their eyes see you in all things;
And may they proclaim your glory
as they walk in the ways of Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Saviour.
