NAIDOC

This week, Gympie East proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week with a day of learning, connection and celebration, honouring the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

A highlight of the day was welcoming Kerry Neill, a Kabi Kabi Traditional Owner, who shared a heartfelt Welcome to Country and shared the story, How Maroochy Cried her Tears. Students were captivated as Kerry spoke about culture, history and the importance of caring for Country before treating everyone to a boomerang throwing demonstration. What a privilege it was to learn from someone with such a deep connection to the land on which we learn and play.

Throughout the day, students immersed themselves in a range of engaging activities, exploring First Nations stories, language, music, art, traditional games, research, nature and cultural connections. Every experience encouraged curiosity, respect and a deeper appreciation of the world's oldest continuing culture.

Together, we continue to grow understanding, respect and pride as we walk together in the spirit of reconciliation.
