Dear Families,
As we move further into Term 3, there is much to celebrate across our Galilee community.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to our Year 6 students who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation this week. It was a joyous occasion as they received the gifts of the Holy Spirit and took an important step in their faith journey.
The Confirmation Mass was celebrated by the Episcopal Vicar, the Very Reverend Andrzej Madry, together with Father Paul and Father John. We are grateful for their guidance and support as our students celebrated this special Sacrament.
During the Rite of Confirmation, students renewed their Baptismal promises, received the Laying on of Hands with the Prayer of Invocation of the Holy Spirit, were anointed with the Oil of Chrism, and were confirmed in the faith. As part of the celebration, each student was called by their Confirmation name, chosen in honour of a Saint who inspires them to live a life of faith, courage and service.
We congratulate our Year 6 students on this significant milestone and thank their families, sponsors, our parish community, and everyone who supported them throughout their preparation. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen them as they grow in faith and live out the values of the Gospel each day.
School Closure Day last Friday
On Friday 31 July, our staff came together for a School Closure Day dedicated to preparing for Galilee's upcoming Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) School Review.
The day provided an opportunity for staff to collaborate, reflect and celebrate the significant work taking place across our school. Together, staff reviewed evidence of student learning and wellbeing, analysed school data, evaluated current practices and considered the impact of improvement initiatives.
Staff also worked to showcase the many strengths of our school while identifying opportunities to continue enhancing teaching, learning and student outcomes. This collaborative process is an important part of ensuring we remain focused on continuous improvement and providing the best possible educational experience for every child.
We appreciate the dedication and professionalism of our staff, whose commitment to reflective practice and ongoing growth helps Galilee continue to flourish as a vibrant Catholic learning community.
Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival
Tomorrow, our Years 3–6 students will head to Lakeside Stadium for our annual Athletics Carnival. This is always a highlight of the school calendar, providing students with the opportunity to challenge themselves, demonstrate perseverance and, most importantly, encourage one another.
Whether competing on the track, in the field events or cheering from the sidelines, we look forward to a day that reflects the positive spirit and sportsmanship of our Galilee community. We wish all students the very best and thank the staff and parent volunteers who make the day possible.
100 Days of Prep!
On Monday, our Prep students will celebrate an exciting milestone-100 Days of School!
Over the past 100 days, our youngest learners have grown in confidence, built new friendships and developed many new skills. To celebrate this special achievement, students will enjoy a range of fun, hands-on activities centred around the number 100.
We are so proud of everything our Prep students have accomplished and look forward to celebrating this memorable day together. Congratulations to our Preps on reaching your first 100 days of learning at Galilee.
2027 Prep Transition Begins
On Friday 14 August, we look forward to welcoming our 2027 Prep students to Galilee for their first transition session.
These sessions are designed to help our future students build confidence and familiarity with the school environment, establish positive relationships with Galilee staff and begin learning the routines that will support a smooth and successful start to school next year. We can't wait to welcome our newest members of the Galilee community.
Family Maths Afternoon - You're Invited!
Everyone within the Galilee Community is invited to our Galilee Family Maths Afteroon on Monday 17 August from 4:00–5:15pm! Families are invited into classrooms to experience engaging, hands-on maths learning and enjoy a range of fun maths games together with thier children that can easily be played at home.
Galilee Gala 2026 – MIDNIGHT IN MONACO
Tickets are now on sale for the Galilee Gala 2026 – Midnight in Monaco. Join us on Saturday 12 September for an evening of great food, entertainment and community as we come together to celebrate and support our school. Early Bird tickets are available until 14 August, with limited places. We encourage families to secure their tickets early to avoid missing out. School Closure Day – Friday 21 August
Our next School Closure Day will take place on Friday 21 August.
This day has been allocated as time in lieu for our staff, recognising the many hours they contribute outside of the normal school day throughout the year. Time in lieu was introduced across all Victorian schools a number of yeasr ago to acknowledge the additional work teachers undertake beyond their regular hours.
At Galilee, these out-of-hours commitments include, but are not limited to, school camps, Family Faith Nights, after-hours meetings, Sacramental Masses, and community events such as the School Disco.
GOSH, our out-of-hours school care program, will be operating on this day. If you require care for your child, we encourage you to book through the TheirCare website as soon as possible.
Bullying No Way Week - 2026 theme: Small Acts, Big Impact
Bullying No Way Week will be celebrated in Week 6 at Galilee. This year's theme, "Small Acts, Big Impact," reminds us that simple actions can make a significant difference in someone's life. Small acts of kindness—such as including someone, speaking up or showing kindness—can have a lasting positive impact.
Throughout Week 6, all students will participate in a range of classroom based activities that explore this year's theme and promote kindness, inclusion, respect, and positive relationships.
