Year 4

Snapshot of Learning

The Year 4 students have been exploring procedural writing by creating clear, step-by-step instructions. This week, they were asked to write a procedure on how to make a jam sandwich.

The Year 4 teachers then invited students to read their instructions aloud in small working groups, carefully following each step exactly as written. This led to lots of laughter, as the teachers followed very literal directions - some of which resulted in quite a mess!

Through this engaging activity, students gained real insight into the importance of clarity and precision in their writing, learning that editing is not just about improving vocabulary, but ensuring their instructions actually make sense to the reader.

This was a valuable learning opportunity as we move into our knowledge-rich unit on Chemical Sciences, where students will be creating and following procedures to successfully achieve a goal.
