Year 2 Experience

Last Friday, our Year 2 students enjoyed a wonderful day of fun and adventure during their Year 2 Experience! The day began at Activate, where students had the opportunity to challenge themselves and build confidence while trying their hand at rock climbing. They then enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation with a trip to Palace Cinemas, Balwyn, to watch Toy Story 5. It was a fantastic day filled with laughter, friendship and memorable experiences. A huge thank you to Miss Burke for organising such a wonderful day, and to Mrs Toomey and Mrs Gerecke for giving up their time to assist and support the students throughout the day. What a great way to make special memories together!

Year 3/4 Excursion

On Monday 26 October, Year 3/4 went to Polly Woodside to learn about how it is living on a ship. We found out that they used a rope for toilet paper and only had 2L of water to use every day. I learnt 'starboard' and 'port' mean left and right, and that they ring a bell a certain amount of rings, to tell them where the danger is. My favourite part was trying to stay balanced on the rope. It was very tricky. I suggest you go to Polly Woodside. It was really cool.

On Monday 26th of October, the Year 3/4s went on an excursion to Polly Woodside and the Immigration Museum to learn about how the crews that stayed on the ship, stayed on it for a long time. We found out some of the basic stuff first, like 'starboard' means 'left' and 'port' means 'right'. They also used rope as toilet paper but unfortunately we touched it before we knew what it was! There was also the Captain's lounge which was luxury for the ship. My favourite part was exploring the ship and learning new things. At the Immigration Museum we learnt about our ancestors and what happened back when they first arrived in Australia. My favourite part of the Immigration Museum was the soccer part that we saw.

The Polly Woodside was a famous boat that William Woodside named after his wife, Polly, but her real name was not Polly. William Woodside named it after her because he thought that sometimes she talked like a parrot. The Polly Woodside travelled to the most dangerous places you could travel to in the 1800s. The Polly Woodside is very big and can fit over 100 people. The boat was made for carrying lots and lots of cargo. The boat got sold to New Zealand and they renamed it Rona. Then the boat was no longer needed for sea journeys so Australia wanted to save it, and it only cost a single cent. They changed the name back to Polly Woodside. Now it is a museum so people can learn about it.  I learnt a lot of things that I didn't know. On the bottom level of the boat there was a red couch and a painting that looked like one of the ships in the movies. I thought it was the best excursion I have ever been on and I want to go back soon.

Year 6 Sailing

Our Year 6 students have been thoroughly enjoying their Sailing Program, developing a wonderful range of new skills and building their confidence out on the water. Throughout the program, students have been learning how to steer and control their boats, understand wind direction, adjust their sails, work together as a team, and follow important water safety procedures. They have also been developing their problem-solving skills, resilience and independence, as they navigate the challenges of sailing. Of course, learning to sail also comes with a few unexpected moments, and there have been some entertaining reminders that staying in the boat is sometimes just as important as knowing how to steer it! A few unexpected dips in the lake have certainly added to the fun and provided plenty of laughs. Well done, Year 6!
