Planning for 2027
A gentle reminder that, as we continue preparing for the 2027 school year, we ask families who are intending to leave Sacred Heart Kew to please notify the school via admin@shkew.catholic.edu.au as soon as possible. We also encourage parents and carers who wish to share relevant information regarding their child’s learning, wellbeing or individual support needs for consideration in next year’s class placements to email principal@shkew.catholic.edu.au by Friday 6 November (today). Please remember that requests for particular teachers cannot be accommodated. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we continue planning for a positive and successful start to 2027 for all students.
RE News
This morning, we gathered to celebrate our Prep and Senior Buddy Paraliturgy, giving thanks to God for the special gift of friendship and the beautiful connections we share across our school.
Our theme, "We Are Better Together," reminded us that we are all part of one loving community here at Sacred Heart and that everyone belongs, everyone is valued and everyone has something special to share.
As we sang our entrance hymn, Gather Together, we reflected on how blessed we are to have our senior students as role models for our Preps. Through their kindness, guidance and encouragement, our older students share their experiences, help our youngest learners feel welcomed and supported, and demonstrate what it means to live out the values of Jesus.
Our Gospel reading from John 13:34 reminded us of Jesus' message: "Love one another as I have loved you." These words encouraged us to think about how we can show love through our actions, by being kind, caring, patient and supportive of one another.
Thank you to Megan, Liz and Alyssa for preparing the students.
PA Colour Run
What a fantastic afternoon we had at our Sacred Heart Colour Run! It was wonderful to see so many happy faces, plenty of colour, laughter and enthusiasm as our students got involved and enjoyed this special event. A huge thank you to our Parents' Association for the time, effort and organisation that went into making the afternoon such a success, and to all the parents who volunteered their time to help on the day. We would also like to thank our staff for their wonderful enthusiasm, energy and willingness to get involved. Your participation certainly added to the fun and excitement! It was a fabulous afternoon of community spirit and a wonderful reminder of what makes Sacred Heart such a special place.
2027 Prep Transition
Next Wednesday 11 November, we look forward to welcoming our 2027 Preps and their families for their final Transition Session. This will be a special half-day experience for the children as they continue to familiarise themselves with Sacred Heart Kew, meet their Senior Buddies, and participate in our school’s Remembrance Day Commemoration.
While the children are busy enjoying their morning, families are invited to join us for morning tea and an opportunity to connect with one another.
Our Second-Hand Uniform Shop will also be open in the Hall from 8:30am for families wishing to purchase uniform items.
We also remind parents that our Prep 2027 Parent Information Night will take place at 7:00pm in the MPR next Wednesday 11 November.
This is an important opportunity for parents to receive further information as we prepare for the exciting start to their child's school journey next year.
We look forward to sharing this special final transition experience with you!
Kinder Buddy Program
Last Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome the children from Little Assets 4-Year-Old Kinder to Sacred Heart Kew for a special visit. The children spent time with their Year 5/6 buddies, helping to build connections and become familiar with some of the friendly faces they will see around our school. They also enjoyed a tour of the school, exploring our learning spaces and facilities, before having some fun playing on the playground. It was wonderful to see their excitement and enthusiasm as they continue to develop their confidence and familiarity with Sacred Heart Kew. We are particularly excited that a few of these children will be joining our school community next year, and we look forward to welcoming them as they begin their Sacred Heart journey!
Canberra Camp 2027
A reminder to families that our Senior Canberra Camp Parent and Child Information Evening will take place on Wednesday 18 November, from 6:30pm–7:30pm in the MPR. All current Year 4 and Year 5 parents, along with the children who will be attending the camp (Monday 15 – Friday 19 February 2027), are invited to attend. This session will provide families with the final itinerary and important information to assist with preparations for the trip.
We also remind families who have not yet done so, to please pay the $500 deposit ASAP.
ALSO...
If your circumstances have changed and your child will NOT be attending the 2027 Senior Trip to Canberra, please contact the school immediately, so we can relay this information to our Travel company ASAP.
We look forward to sharing further details about this exciting opportunity with our students and families!

2026 School Closure Days
As was communicated to families last year...
* Time in Lieu (TIL)
The current Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) has a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.
Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.
Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
