News from Year 3 - OH, WHAT A NIGHT!

On Tuesday 13th October, the Year 3 students went on a late-night adventure for their camp experience. We had afternoon tea at school and made our picnic dinner, which we then took on a bus to Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park.

We had a picnic and then went on a night tour, where we saw wombats, koalas, and even watched the Tasmanian Devil being fed. We got to feed the kangaroos, and Bluey the Echidna even came out to greet us when we visited his enclosure!

The students had the most amazing experience. I think we may have some budding zookeepers in our mix!

Amelia - I like how the koalas have a type of shell in their back to help them balance and feel more comfortable when sitting in their trees. It is like a pillow.

Riley - I liked how we got to pat the Kangaroos, especially Nelson. One of the Kangaroos was white. Her name was Coconut and she was born with missing pigment. I also learnt that Koalas have two thumbs.

Tahlia -  I liked feeding the kangaroos and seeing the joeys in their pouches and I also liked learning about how kangaroos and Wallabies are different.

Michael - I liked the Tasmania devil, it has sharp teeth to eat bones, and it sounds like a devil screaming. Its blood also goes to its ears to make it look like devil horns.

Matthew - I enjoyed following Bluey the echidna. Fun fact: A baby echidna is called a puggle.

Billie - I like the dingoes and their fluffy tails. I learnt that they are more like wolves than dogs and they howl.

Declan - I didn’t like the Tamasian Devil, but I liked the koalas and feeding the kangaroos. One of the kangaroos was massive and his name was Nelson.

Charlotte - Even though I liked the koala more than the Tasmanian Devil, I learnt an interesting and gross fact about the devil. The Tasmanian Devil can have up to 30 babies at once, but only 4 get to drink milk, she eats the rest.

Annie - I liked the Kangaroos and Wallabies and feeding them. One koala called Olive was scratching and they use a special back claw to do this.

Jameson - I like that there was a wombat named Jimmy, who poops cubes and builds a tower outside his burrow to keep others away.
