GREEN TEAM REPORT

Insect Hotel Project

The Green Team is also undertaking an exciting project to build and install several insect hotels around the school grounds in Term 3.

These hotels will provide vital artificial habitats in our urban environment, where natural shelters can be scarce. They will benefit our school environment by supporting biodiversity, attracting essential pollinators, and encouraging beneficial predator insects, such as ladybirds, which help control pests naturally.

The Green Team has already created some wonderful initial designs and is now looking for support from our school community to help bring their vision to life.

We are seeking donations of time, materials, or financial support to assist with the construction of these insect hotels. Some of the items we are looking for include:

  • Old tins with no sharp or rough edges
  • String or twine
  • Wire or strong plastic mesh
  • Protective outer structures (such as wooden boxes, dollhouses, or similar items)
  • Natural materials to fill the hotels, including: sticks and twigs, bamboo, bark, acorns, driftwood, moss, pinecones, leaves, rocks, sand

These are just a few suggestions, and we welcome any other donations that could contribute to creating safe, school-appropriate insect hotels.

If you are able to donate any of these items, please bring them to school and deliver them to Ms Lucy over the coming weeks.

Thank you for supporting the Green Team and helping to create thriving habitats for insects within our school community.
