Congratulations ~ First Eucharist Candidates

Congratulations to the children who received the Sacrament of Eucharist last Saturday. It was a beautiful celebration of faith and an important milestone in their spiritual journey. We thank our students for the reverence and commitment they showed in preparing for this special occasion, and we acknowledge the support of their families and parish community.

Prep Enrolments 2027

Prep enrolments for 2027 are filling quickly and applications are very close to closing. It is wonderful to see the strong interest in St Joseph’s and the continued growth and success of our school community.

If you have a younger sibling who will be commencing Prep in 2027, we encourage you to complete an enrolment form through the Enquiry Tracker link on the school website as soon as possible. Alternatively, please speak with Kathryn or Mandy in the office, who will be happy to assist you with the enrolment process.

Thank you for your ongoing support of St Joseph’s. It is wonderful to see our school thriving, and we look forward to welcoming another group of families into our community in 2027.

Cross Country Success

Three of our students, Noah and Ada Ryan, and Sophie Sturrock, proudly represented St Joseph’s at the Divisional Cross Country Championships last week. Despite the challenging conditions of rain, wind, cold temperatures and plenty of puddles, all three competitors showed tremendous determination and resilience, making St Joseph’s proud with their outstanding efforts.

A special congratulations to Sophie Sturrock, who achieved an excellent second-place finish and has qualified for the Regional Championships – just one step away from the State Championships. This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to Sophie’s athletic prowess!

Congratulations to all three students. We are incredibly proud of the way you represented our school and the courage and perseverance you displayed in such difficult conditions. Well done!

Edible Garden Grant

HUGE THANK YOU to Ms Lucy (our Sustainability Leader), who has successfully applied for and received a grant of $500 from the Victorian Schools Garden Program to develop an  Edible Garden at St Joseph’s.

Keep an eye on the school grounds over the coming terms as the Green Team works to design and establish an Indigenous Edible Garden!

For more sustainability news from our Green Team about the development of their Insect Hotel Project, please see the Sustainability Section of this newsletter.  We are seeking donations of time, materials, or financial support to assist with the construction of these insect hotels.

School Photo Day – Tuesday, 16 June

Gallery Image

School Photo Day will be held next Tuesday, 16 June. All students are required to wear their full winter uniform, even if it is their scheduled Sports Day. This includes the school jumper (not the sports jacket).

To ensure a neat and consistent appearance for photographs, students should wear black school shoes (not runners), have long hair tied back using school-coloured hair accessories, and refrain from wearing jewellery.

Thank you for your support in helping all students look their best for this special day.

Hooptime

The annual Hooptime Basketball Round Robin will be held on 17 June.  We strongly encourage all of our Grade 5/6 students to participate in this event, which provides a wonderful opportunity for every child to experience being part of a team. For many students, it is an opportunity they may not otherwise have to participate in a team sport.

Hooptime focuses on participation, enjoyment and teamwork, with divisions to cater for all levels of experience. Students who are new to basketball can compete in the Rookies division, which is designed specifically for beginners. In the lead-up to the event, these students will have the opportunity to practise at school and become familiar with the basic rules and skills of the game.

The success of the day relies heavily on the support of parent volunteers who assist with coaching and scorekeeping. A notice will be sent home via COMPASS tomorrow seeking parent helpers. If you are able to assist, we would greatly appreciate your support. It is always a fantastic day and a wonderful opportunity to be involved in your child's sporting experience.

We encourage all students to embrace this experience, support one another and enjoy the chance to represent St Joseph’s in a fun and inclusive team environment. If there are extenuating circumstances that may prevent your child from participating, please contact either myself or your child's classroom teacher so that we can discuss the situation and provide appropriate support.

Principal's Conference

I will be attending the North East Zone Principals’ Conference this week and will be away from Wednesday afternoon until Friday. The conference brings together principals from schools across the North East Zone and provides an important opportunity for collaboration and professional learning.

This year’s conference will focus on the wellbeing of school leaders and staff, along with strategies to promote positive school cultures and thriving learning communities. I look forward to sharing the insights and ideas gained with our staff on my return.
