SLA

In SLA we have been studying man-made and natural disasters and inventing solutions to reduce their impact. The students had the opportunity to research a natural disaster, how it effects the land and humanity.  They then had to come up with an idea of how to reduce the impact of the disaster and to make a model of this concept.  Here are some photos and students’ reflections:

Archie: My invention is a car that stops volcanoes. It is called the Valca-no. It is a car but also a volcano survival bunker for when a volcano erupts. It has a machine that makes any food you want. It has beds for when its night and you want to sleep and it also has an unlimited water machine. Outside there is a tube that sucks in the gas and lava that comes out of the volcano.

Alissa: My invention is Polly the pollution bot. She has an orange sensor on the top of her head that detects where pollution is getting bad and unsafe. She zooms off with her rockets flying to the rescue. When she gets there, she has a special vacuum that sucks up all the things that don’t need to be there.

Leila: My invention is called the Firetector 3000. It works by sensing the fire then shooting out fire while calling the fire fighters. It is made of steel because steel is fireproof. This works by keeping the fire small and not dangerous but also keeping the fire fighters informed.

Mia: During this project, I learnt that disasters happen a lot and they ruin our earth.  The project opened my eyes to see that people are desperately trying to stop these disasters, so I create an invention that kills tornadoes.  The Tornado Separator 100 saves lives by immediately killing tornadoes and protecting the earth by releasing chemicals into the eye of the tornado.  I hope this invention comes true!

Xavier: I learnt about bushfires by researching about them.  The exciting part was making our creative solution.  We could make it out of cardboard, paper and more.  This was fun but it made a lot of mess.  My solution was a mini sand gun that shot out expandable sand to help put out a bushfire.

Jason: For this project, I learnt about tornadoes.  While researching I learnt that natural disasters ruin the earth and this shocked me.  My invention helps the world by keeping people safe.  I have made a safety bunker for people to shelter in.
