Year 9/10 Art

Year 9 and 10 Visual Art

Students have begun the term exploring prehistoric art and the origins of artistic expression. This week, students investigated ancient cave paintings by creating their own paint pigments using traditional techniques. They experimented with charcoal, rocks, dried clay, chalk, oil pastels, water and PVA glue to recreate the process of combining natural materials with binders such as animal fat and tree sap—similar to the methods used by some of the world’s earliest artists to produce the first known paints.
