Student Agency Conferences - A Chance to Reflect, Celebrate and Set Learning Goals

We are looking forward to our upcoming Student Agency Conferences on Thursday, 10 September from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm.

Student Agency Conferences provide a valuable opportunity for students, families and teachers to come together to celebrate learning, reflect on progress and set meaningful goals. They also strengthen the partnership between home and school and encourage students to take greater ownership of their learning.

During the 15-minute conference, your child will be supported to share their achievements, discuss challenges and identify their next steps. We encourage families to participate by asking thoughtful questions and listening carefully to their child’s ideas.  Reflection helps students recognise what they have learned, understand which strategies help them and identify areas they would like to improve. It also supports a growth mindset by helping students see challenges and mistakes as valuable opportunities to learn.

Questions you can ask:

You do not need to ask every question. Choose the questions that feel most relevant and allow your child time to think and respond.

Celebrating Learning

  • What learning would you like to share with me?
  • Can you tell me more about this task?
  • What are you most proud of?
  • How have you improved since your last conference?

Understanding the Learning Process

  • What helped you complete this task?
  • What helped you when the learning became difficult?
  • What did you learn from making a mistake or trying again?
  • If you completed this task again, what might you do differently?

Exploring Challenges

  • What did you find challenging?
  • What did you do when you felt unsure or became stuck?
  • What could help you manage a similar challenge next time?
  • Is there an area in which you would like some additional support?

Discussing Learning Goals

  • What steps will you take to achieve it?
  • How will you know when you have achieved your goal?
  • What might make achieving your goal difficult?
  • What is one action you can begin this week?

Supporting Student Agency

  • How have you taken responsibility for your learning?
  • How do you ask for help when you need it?
  • How do you let your teacher know what you need to learn successfully?
  • How have you used feedback to improve your work?

Connecting Home and School

  • What can we do at home to support your learning?
  • Is there something you would like us to practise or explore together?
  • What would you like us to celebrate with you?

By encouraging children to talk about their learning, families help nurture confidence, resilience, perseverance and independence. These are important qualities that support students both at school and beyond the classroom.

We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating your child’s achievements, progress and future learning goals together.
