Farewell Mass and Lunch ~ Bishop of Sandhurst
On Saturday I attended the farewell Mass on behalf of our school community, recognising the significant contributions Bishop Shane Mackinlay has made in our schools, parishes and across the Sandhurst Diocese. We pray for Bishop Shane as he moves to Brisbane in August to serve as Archbishop in the Brisbane Diocese. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide him as he shepherds with strength, positivity and hope.
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day will be celebrated on Monday 4th August.
This significant day is an opportunity to celebrate the strengths and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and is a time for all Australians to show their support.
The theme for 2025 is ‘Little Footsteps, Big Future’, which honours the journeys of children as they grow, guided by culture, community, and connection to Country. Each Year level will gather in their shared spaces in the morning of Monday 4th August to recognise and celebrate this significant date.
St Anne’s Feast Day
St Anne’s Feast Day is celebrated on 26th July.
Saint Anne (Hebrew: Ḥannah) was born in Bethlehem in Judaea. She married Joachim. Saint Anne was the mother of Mary and the maternal grandmother of Jesus. Anne for a long time did not have any children and she promised God that she would dedicate her firstborn child to the Lord's service. During the time of waiting, Anne always remained faithful, hopeful and trusted in God’s plan. When she had given birth to Mary, she recognised and was humbled by the gift that God had blessed her with and was forever grateful. She nurtured Mary and taught her to respond to God’s call.
Yellow is the house colour of St Anne’s at St. Mary’s.
As this date falls on a Saturday, all classrooms will gather in their shared spaces on Monday morning for prayer, celebrating the qualities of Anne that we try to live out: faith, trust, strength, patience and courage.
Anne,
We pray that you may help us
build happy homes and a strong foundation
for being faithful to the teachings of your grandson Jesus.
Amen.
