NAIDOC Week

At GSSC, we marked NAIDOC Week during the final week of Term 2 with a range of fun and meaningful activities. Each day brought new opportunities for students to engage with culture through traditional basket weaving, food tasting, community stalls, clay turtle making, a language bingo, and a didgeridoo showcase.
One of the highlights of the week was the much-loved Staff vs. Student Buroinjin game, where the staff claimed victory once again.
The celebrations wrapped up on a powerful note with a morning tea and Smoking Ceremony led by local Elders, followed by our NAIDOC Assembly in the gym. The assembly featured our recent sports award presentations, a moving speech by guest speaker Natarsha Bamblett.
We also celebrated the announcement of our 2025 Deadly Student Award winner’s students recognised by their peers for living the GSSC values, showing a strong commitment to learning, and making positive contributions in the classroom. Congratulations to these six outstanding students!
During the assembly, students and staff were treated to amazing performances, including a band set by Nate Traianidis and his crew, a stunning solo by Alira Warner, and powerful dance performances by our First Nations students.
