What's Happening In Secondary

News and Information from Secondary

Secondary Athletics Carnival

Our Secondary Athletics Carnival will be held at the Penguin Athletic track tomorrow, Thursday 28th May, and we couldn’t be more excited! We are looking forward to a fantastic day filled with cheering, smiles, and celebrating the achievements of our wonderful Secondary students.

We warmly invite all parents, families, and friends to come along and join in the fun. Please bring a hat and a picnic rug, and settle in to enjoy the day.

DCS Community has organised the Small Brew Coffee Van to help keep staff and parents caffeinated throughout the day. All beverages from Small Brew will be complimentary for parents and staff. Secondary students are welcome to purchase drinks at their own expense.

We are also delighted to once again welcome Rory’s Hot Spuds food van, which will be on site serving meals and cold drinks for parents and staff throughout the day.

In addition, a small student canteen will be available, offering items such as Gatorade, lolly bags, and chocolate bars, with prices ranging from $2.00–$5.00. Both cash and EFTPOS payments will be accepted.

This event will be weather permitting and families will be notified via text message, Schoolbox and Facebook should we need to postpone the event.

But wait, there's more....

Don’t tell the students… We’ve heard that some students might try to convince their parents to skip Secondary Athletics Day (because apparently parents don't attend secondary events...). But at DCS, we love having our parents involved and partnering with us to make school events special!

So, we’re adding a little extra incentive for parents to jump in on the fun

Come along, dress up in your House colours, and cheer loudly! The top three parents, family or friends who display the best DCS team spirit over the day will walk away with fuel voucher prizes:

  • $100 for first place
  • $75 for second place
  • $50 for third place

Bring the colour, bring the energy, and be part of the excitement as you cheer our students on. We can’t wait to see you there!

Cross Country Day

Last Wednesday, DCS Secondary students ran the Cross Country on DCS grounds and through the Don Reserve. Students began the carnivals with chants in their house groups and then transitioned to the house tents and starting line via a coloured chalk run whilst following their house captains in their groups.

Students navigated courses competitively and cooperatively; showing positive encouragement, servant leadership and most importantly, the DCS spirit. A great day of fun was had for all in the Cross Country for 2026. Bring on the 2027 Cross Country Carnival!

Food Tech

Our students were thrilled to take part in their very first cooking lesson in our brand-new secondary kitchen space today. To celebrate the occasion, students made delicious chocolate mousse and almond biscuits, filling the room with excitement, laughter, and some wonderful aromas! Having our own dedicated kitchen space has been such a blessing, providing students with the opportunity to develop practical cooking skills in a welcoming and inspiring environment. We are incredibly appreciative of this new space and are so excited to continue cooking up a storm together throughout the year.

Year 11 & 12 Leighland Christian School Information Evening

DCS is excited to be partnering with Leighland Christian School to provide information and experiences that will support our Year 10 students as they consider continuing their education into Years 11 and 12.

As part of this partnership, families considering Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are warmly invited to attend Leighland Christian School’s 2026 Year 11/12 Subject Information Evening on Monday 15th June.

This informative evening is designed to support students and families as they begin planning for 2027. Throughout the night, families will hear from Leighland staff about subjects available at Leighland, the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), and ATAR pathways. Following the welcome session, the evening will operate in an open-house format, allowing families the opportunity to move freely between subject displays, meet teachers from all learning areas, ask questions, and reflect on their interests, strengths, and goals for the years ahead. The evening will also allow families to gain a clearer understanding of course content, expectations, and future pathways at Leighland.

A tour of the Leighland Christian School will also be available to new families on the night.

The Information Evening will be held in the Multi-Purpose Hall, commencing at 6:30pm and concluding at approximately 8:00pm.

If you are are Year 10 family, we hope that you can attend this event, and please contact the school should you have any questions.
