NSW WriteOn Competition 2025
A huge congratulations to Aubrey L in Year 2 who was awarded a GOLD Award in the NSW WriteOn Competition. She was one of six Gold Award recipients in the Stage One category from 685 entries. She was also the only student from Stage One to be asked to share her Writing at the Awards ceremony that was held on Monday at the NSW State Library.
In “A Message from Future Me”, Aubrey imagines a futuristic encounter with her older self, who is living and working on the Moon in the year 2050. The story begins in her father's university lab, where Aubrey accidentally activates a mysterious screen labelled “Luna Project 2050.” She connects with her future self, an astronaut helping to build the Lunar Belt—a ring of solar panels around the Moon that beams clean energy back to Earth.
Through vivid descriptions and imaginative dialogue, Aubrey explores themes of sustainability, innovation, and hope for the planet. Her future self explains how Lunar Flowers on Earth receive energy from the Moon, replacing fossil fuels and helping restore Earth’s natural beauty. The story ends with Aubrey reflecting on the possibility of change—for the planet, for people, and for herself.
