From our Principal

Dear parents and carers,

We saw the first glimmers of Spring at the beginning of this week. The afternoon sunshine has put an extra spring in our step as we move into the second half of the term.

PYPX

There’s a hive of activity amongst our Year Six classrooms as our students complete their self-guided inquiry as part of our PYP Exhibition unit. The students have explored the Central Idea, ‘Individuals or groups inspire actions or change to solve problems’, through the lens of a specific interest. 

On Monday afternoon, between 4pm-6pm, our Year Six classrooms will be open for our community to visit the exhibition and interact with our students. They are keen to share their learning and take action by building the knowledge of others about their issue. Each class will visit the Exhibition during school time on either Monday or Tuesday.

Congratulations to our Year Six students and the staff supporting them for their work so far. We look forward to celebrating your learning next week.

Year Six Graduation Artwork

Our 2026 Year Six Graduation Artwork commenced this week. You can see the artwork in development near the courts and senior playground. This year’s cohort is collaborating with one of our parents and artist, Deb McNaughton, to create a mural. Each child has contributed to the design and will help with the painting.

Thanks to everyone for being mindful of our artwork, especially as it is being painted.

Reptiles in Foundation

Yesterday our Foundation students enjoyed some scaly, cold-blooded visitors. Our students did a fantastic job of listening, building their knowledge and joining in the activities. 

Jack got to touch a snake. It felt bumpy.

Sadie got to hold a crocodile’s head. It felt like a snake. The head was soft and the teeth were sharp.

Isabella saw her favourite snakes, an Olive Python and a Children’s Python.

Jayda’s favourite was the baby crocodile. It was cute.

Jett said the lizard was called Popcorn. It felt scaly and squishy, like the snake.

Lenny saw the turtle. She got to touch it and it had a hard shell.

Year Five visit to Mordialloc College

Our Year Five students visited Mordialloc College on Tuesday to see their performance of ‘Mamma Mia’. The students enjoyed the show and the opportunity to visit a secondary school. It was terrific to hear of past Aspendale PS students enjoying performing in the production.

Thank you to Mordialloc College for hosting us and to our students for being a kind and respectful audience.

Year Six China Study Tour

On the 7th September, 17 of our Year Six students will travel to China for our study tour. We look forward to visiting our sister school, Xurijingcheng PS, and celebrating the 10th year of our relationship. 

Amelia Busuttil, Hong Ma and I will accompany the students on the trip. We will remain in our roles during this time. Melissa Jacobs will be the Acting Assistant Principal on-site each day during the last two weeks of this term.

Ramps

It is pleasing to see work continuing on our ramps. The Year Five ramp should be completed within the next week. The Art Room ramp will be completed over the September holidays.

Next week construction will begin on the ramps to 4N and the library. Over the weekend, temporary fencing will be installed in this area. Access to the bag shed for our Year 3 and 4 students will continue during construction. 

There are several school and community events coming up. Please make sure you look through the newsletter to be across them all. These include Book Week, our Year Three camp, a visit from the Smile Squad dental van and our Fathers and Special People afternoon.
