For Inquiry this term, the students have been participating in a history unit all about how lives have changed over time. The students selected three different types of transportation, bicycles, trains and cars, and from horse and cart to Teslas, the strange-looking Penny Farthing to an e-bike, the students explored how they changed over time. The most popular transportation of all being the evolution from the Puffing Billy steam train to the Shinkansen bullet train in Japan.

Going forward, we will be looking at our local infrastructure and landmarks and how they have changed through the decades through the use of maps, photographs and online resources from the Whitehorse Historical Society! Using these resources, we will be looking at the changes to roads, local shopping centres and even our very own Weeden Heights PS, comparing them to what we see today.

To encourage and facilitate the students through this inquiry we highly encourage families to take their own excursion down to the Schwerkolt Cottage and Museum Complex, 2-10 Deep Creek Road in Mitcham to visit their free museum which is open from 1-4pm on Saturday and Sundays.  They also have a Family Day on Sunday 13 September, 11am-4pm. The museum is a fantastic and free resource which is run by local volunteers and provides real-life insights into the lives of local people from the past!
