A Word from the Acting Principal

Mrs Nic Rheumer

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through Term 3. The term has been filled with learning, achievement and many opportunities for students both inside and outside the classroom. It has been wonderful to see students continue to embrace challenges, demonstrate our school values and actively engage in their learning. With strong NAPLAN results, successful school events and Book Week celebrations ahead, there is certainly plenty to celebrate as we head into the second half of the term.

NAPLAN Results

The statewide NAPLAN results have now been released, providing schools with the opportunity to reflect on student achievement across Australia. NAPLAN is a national assessment completed by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, measuring achievement in Literacy and Numeracy.

Here at Weeden Heights Primary School, our 2026 NAPLAN results demonstrate the strong learning growth and achievement of our students and reflect the dedication of our staff and the ongoing support of our families. We are particularly proud of the number of students achieving in the Exceeding and Strong proficiency levels across a range of learning areas.

Highlights include:

  • Year 3 Reading: 89% of students achieved Exceeding or Strong, compared with 83% in Similar Schools.
  • Year 3 Numeracy: 94% of students achieved Exceeding or Strong, compared with 84% in Similar Schools.
  • Year 5 Writing: 94% of students achieved Exceeding or Strong, compared with 88% in Similar Schools.
  • Year 5 Spelling: 100% of students achieved Exceeding or Strong, compared with 84% in Similar Schools.
  • Year 5 Grammar and Punctuation: 94% of students achieved Exceeding or Strong, compared with 81% in Similar Schools.

Additional strong results included Year 5 Reading (88%), while Year 3 Writing, Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation outcomes were comparable to, or above, Similar Schools. Our results continue to demonstrate high levels of achievement across the school and reflect our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

Prep Enrolments

We are also continuing to receive Prep enrolment enquiries for 2027. If you know of friends, family members or neighbours with children starting school next year, please encourage them to contact the school and book a tour. There is no better way to see our wonderful school in action than by visiting during the school day and experiencing the learning environment firsthand.

Book Fair

Last week our annual Book Fair was once again a great success. The excitement generated by our students was wonderful to see, and the event helped foster a love of reading while raising valuable funds for additional library resources. A sincere thank you goes to Amanda in the office for her organisation and hard work in ensuring the Book Fair ran so smoothly.

Book Week

Next week we will be celebrating Book Week across the school. The festivities will begin with our Book Week Parade at Monday morning's assembly, and students can look forward to a range of engaging activities throughout the week. We can't wait to see the creative costumes on display and to celebrate the joy of reading and storytelling together.

Thank you

As I conclude my time at Weeden Heights Primary School, I would like to once again thank students, staff and families for their support, kindness and warm welcome. It has been a privilege to be part of such a positive and caring school community. I leave with many wonderful memories and a deep appreciation for all that makes Weeden Heights such a special place. I wish Ms Campbell, the staff and students every success for the future and have no doubt that the school will continue to thrive. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey for a short time, and I look forward to hearing about the many achievements and successes that lie ahead for the Weeden Heights community.
