Principal’s Report – Term 2

Welcome to Term 2! What a lovely start we have had. The weather has been beautiful, and it has been wonderful to see and hear the children reconnecting, sharing their holiday highlights, and settling back into school routines so positively.

A friendly reminder that, in line with Department guidelines, students are required to wear hats until the end of this month. Beyond this, we will continue to encourage hat use on warmer days or when UV levels are high to ensure everyone stays safe while enjoying time outdoors.

Our students recently had the opportunity to attend the Cross Country and Junior Fun Day, and it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and participation. I would like to commend all students who attended, supported one another, and gave things a go, even when it may have felt a little challenging. This truly reflects one of our school values at IPS: working hard and participating to the best of our ability.

Unfortunately, we had 14 students unable to attend on the day, which resulted in the unnecessary cost of a second bus. In the future, it is essential that families notify the school with adequate notice if their child will not be attending an event. This helps us plan effectively and avoid additional expenses. We also encourage families to support their children in attending school events, even in a supportive or non-competitive role, as these experiences are so valuable.

It was also fantastic to see the success of our very first OSHC Vacation Care program. The number of bookings was incredibly encouraging, and the children had a wonderful time engaging in a wide range of activities, including tie-dye, picnics, wheel day, science experiments, sensory play, and finishing with a silent disco! While many sessions are filling quickly, there are still some places available on certain days, so please contact the office if you are interested.

We are very fortunate to welcome Bel to our school community. Bel will be supporting our OSHC program, particularly with planning and policy development, as well as working across the school in an education support role. Many families had the chance to meet Bel over the holidays, and we are excited to have her as part of our team.

It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of Val Johns. Val had a long and valued connection to our school through her work teaching Religious Education and through her family’s involvement in our community. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Our Grade 6 students are proudly wearing their tops, and it has been wonderful to see their excitement and sense of leadership across the school.

Please remember to check the important dates for the term and return any Dental Van forms as soon as possible.

We hope the rest of the term continues as positively as it has begun. As always, please feel welcome to pop in and say hello.
