 News from the Chicken Coop

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Thanks to the wonderful Zhang, Moon, Ling, De Frutos, Effendy and  Ballestrin families for taking such great care of our school chickens over the school holidays. The chickens really miss the students during the holidays and they look forward to the duty families coming to visit them each day. We hope you got some eggs and baked lots of delicious goodies with them, yum!

Volunteers needed for Term 4

All weekends starting from 18/10/25 during Term 4 are available for Chicken Duty.

Each weekend and over the school holidays, school families volunteer to go on the chicken duty roster to look after our school chickens. You only need to pop up to visit the chickens once a day to check their water and food. It’s really easy and the kids love it! Duty families get to keep all the yummy eggs they collect over the weekend. An information sheet will be provided with all the details prior to your duty.

If you would like to put your name on the roster please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au with your preferred dates. First in, first choice of dates!

St John’s students love having the chickens at school. All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for them.

Gardening with Jan!

The gardening club will continue to meet at lunchtimes on Thursdays.

Come along and say hello to Jan at the veggie garden and check out what has been growing over the holidays.

Chicken Club

Everyone is welcome to come along to Chicken Club every Friday at recess, the more the merrier! We give the chicken coop and the yard a bit of a clean, fill up their food for the weekend and make sure that they have lots of fresh water. Then we get to play with the chickens and collect the eggs.

Thanks for your support,

The Environment Team
