October: The Month of the Rosary
October is a very special month in the Church because it is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The Rosary is a beautiful prayer where we reflect on the life of Jesus and Mary by praying with beads. Each bead helps us to remember a prayer, and each decade (a group of ten beads) helps us to think about an important story from Jesus’ life, called a “mystery.”
When Mary appeared to children in places like Fatima and Lourdes, she asked them to pray the Rosary. She told them that this prayer would bring peace to the world and peace to our hearts. In our world today, peace is something we all long for – peace in our families, peace at school, and peace across the world. By praying even one decade of the Rosary, we join millions of people around the world who are praying for peace.
The Rosary is often called Mary’s gift to us, because it helps us to grow closer to Jesus and reminds us that we are never alone. Each time we pray the Rosary, we ask Mary to pray with us and for us.
You might like to pray just one decade of the Rosary at home with your family during October. Even a few minutes of prayer can help bring peace, joy, and a sense of God’s presence.
