Cross Country Competition - 1969

Mazenod students competed in their first Eastern Independent Schools (EIS) Cross Country run at Whitefriars College in 1969.  As newbies, it seems they were at something of a disadvantage as reported in the Mazenodian……

"The hills and dales of the Whitefriars property proved to be a very searching trial for some runners and our team found the competition very strong. Wet weather made the course very slippery and our boys running in sandshoes were at a distinct disadvantage compared with those who, with previous knowledge of the course, wore spikes."

This event was the beginning of Mazenod’s strong tradition of involvement in athletics.
