Welcome Back to the SAKG Garden for 2024!

Dear Kingswood Community,

Welcome back to another exciting year at the SAKG garden! As the garden specialist, I'm thrilled to share the vibrant life and growth happening in our little green oasis.

In the SAKG garden, our summer crops are flourishing, boasting an array of delights from squash and zucchini to beans and tomatoes. Take a stroll and explore this beautiful part of our school grounds. It's not just a garden; it's an outdoor classroom brimming with wonders!

Our garden is not just a collection of plants; it's a canvas where curiosity and inspiration blossom. Check out the sunflowers in one of the centre beds in the SAKG Garden. They are about to come into full bloom.

Recently, we embarked on whole-grade garden walks, encouraging students to observe and discuss the fascinating adaptations plants make to thrive in a hot summer. With their newfound knowledge, they engaged in a spirited scavenger hunt, mapping out their discoveries. This activity not only enhanced individual understanding but fostered a culture of teamwork in our garden community.

In the upcoming weeks, we'll be harvesting potatoes, tending to the chicken coop, and clearing garden beds. These hands-on experiences stimulate imagination and instil a genuine love for learning for the students.

Connected to Community: Engaging Our Local Community

Keep an eye out for our market stalls! The continuous harvesting of cucumbers, zucchini, and squash means we'll have plenty of fresh produce to share with our community. It's a fantastic opportunity for everyone to connect and enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of our collective efforts.

Remember, the garden is a living classroom, and I look forward to another year of growth, learning and joy in the SAKG garden.

Happy Gardening!
